KIIS FM stars Will and Woody reveal their three most awkward celebrity encounters

KIIS FM drive hosts Will and Woody have opened up about their most awkward celebrity encounters, including a rather risque fashion faux pas.

Jason Segal and Emily Blunt can't get over Will's camel toe

WHAT do Jennifer Lopez, Jason Segal and Flo Rida all have in common?

They’ve all had incredibly awkward moments with radio stars Will and Woody.

The duo have been working together in radio since 2012 and at the start of this year landed their dream gig of hosting KIIS FM’s national drive show [from 4-6pm].

Over the years they’ve met plenty of A-list stars but three in particular stand out in their minds as their most memorable celebrity encounters, and they were kind enough to take an awkward trip down memory lane for news.com.au:

In case you’re wondering which one’s which.

JENNIFER LOPEZ

Woody: It was J. Lo’s first time in Australia and unfortunately for the radio station we were working for at that time, all the other shows were on survey break and therefore the best replacement was the boys filling in hosting the Summer Breakfast Show, which was us.

We’d been doing radio for less than six months at that point and this was going to be the first interview ever done with Jennifer Lopez on Australian soil. We knew this was a huge moment for our careers so we went straight into brainstorming mode. What we landed on was dressing up as Summer Santa’s and we were going to give her some Australian gifts.

Will: Which is just awful radio.

Woody: It’s just so visual. Again we didn’t really understand the format at that time.

[The interview was taking place in a small room under Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne]

Will: We were the only chat she was doing.

Woody: She’d just flown in and done a press conference and then had our interview before a concert. So we’re in our Santa suits with our sack of gifts and we’re very nervous as you can imagine. We were standing just outside the door and we could hear J. Lo cracking the proverbial s**ts, losing it as who we imagine was her assistant.

Will: I think it was her manager and we could hear J. Lo say, “how long have I got these guys?” We heard him go, “10 minutes”, and she goes, “I ain’t got 10 minutes, I got five minutes!” We were like, holy s**t!

Woody: On the spot we’re thinking she’s not going to appreciate the Santa outfits so we were like, “s**t s**t s**t, let’s get changed”. So while we hear her cracking the s**ts, Will and I start taking our Santa outfits off to try and get back into casual clothes. But unfortunately the door swung open and there was J. Lo with sunglasses on and an angry look on her face seeing two half dressed Summer Santas. We made the decision to put the outfits back on. We sat down and I’ve never been more nervous in my entire life.

Will: She’s so intimidating. She’s not a tall woman but she had these wrap around Prada sunnies and they just didn’t come off. We were underground in Rod Laver and they just didn’t come off. Because we hadn’t been paid yet and neither of us were working, we were just uni students, we could only afford gifts from the $2 shop. Like, we got a fly swat. We actually got Jennifer Lopez a fly swat! And one of those really crappy plastic tenpin bowling sets.

Woody: It’s hard to remember all of what happened but I think the interview itself would have been terrible.

Will: It was horrible.

Woody: To her credit she was warm.

Will: Yeah I think she realised really quickly how s**t we were.

Woody: As soon as she realised we were just trying to have some fun she was really nice and she genuinely pretended to like the gifts as well, which we appreciated.

FLO RIDA

Will: This was bad. This was at a time when we’d actually been made redundant from the radio station we were working at but we hadn’t given up on doing the radio thing so we kept our passes [into the building] and we used to sneak in to use the studios to record a podcast. We used to go in late, after 10pm when there’d be no one there.

We went in one night and walked into a room in Triple M and it was like Christmas. We were like, “holy s**t!” There were bottles of Belvedere Vodka, champagne on ice, heaps of food. It was epic. We were like, “this is the best thing that’s ever happened and f**k it, they made us redundant so …”

Woody: In our defence we thought it was leftovers from a party.

Will: Although it did look pristine.

Woody: And the chicken was still warm.

Will: We got stuck in. But it turns out it was actually Flo Rida’s rider for a gig that he was doing on the rooftop [at the radio station]. I can’t even begin to tell you how much s**t they [the radio station] got in for that. The girl who was running events at the station works for KIIS FM now and she apparently borderline got fired because of the absolute s**tstorm that Flo Rida kicked up.

Woody: Apparently Flo Rida was so angry that someone had tucked into his food that he was that close to not going on stage to perform.

JASON SEGAL AND EMILY BLUNT

Will: The other one that was a debacle was when we interviewed Jason Segal and Emily Blunt. I can’t remember what the premise was but we decided to rock up in outfits.

Woody: I can remember. It was for their movie The Five-Year Engagement and in the film they meet in costumes so this is where the creative masterstroke occurs. Will and I decided why don’t we have them meet us when we’re in costumes.

I was given the job of picking up some costumes for the two of us. I got myself a big dinosaur suit and I got for Will a children’s Superman suit.

Will: We get into the costumes when we’re about 10 metres away from the studio where we’re doing the interview and this was the first time I’d put the Superman costume on. It was a onesie and it was one of those ones that you pulled up over your shoulder. But it was way too small for me so I got just the most visually heinous camel toe you’ve ever seen in your life. I was divided. The beans were on one side and the frank was on the other. It was so visible and I was like, I can’t wear this. But that’s when they told us we were up.

Will's camel toe was quite … noticeable.

We just walked in and I actually saw Jason Segal turn around and see me through the glass and he’s pointing and he’s howling in laughter. Emily Blunt was looking the other way and he tapped her on the shoulder and said, “look at his camel toe! Look at his camel toe!” I actually didn’t want to go in there and he is like out of his chair taking photos. We didn’t even start the interview.

Woody: He couldn’t get past it. He couldn’t even look us in the eyes. He was just staring. He was so dumbfounded by it. He was like, “I’ve never seen a camel toe like it!” Will was trying to re-adjust and ask his first question but Jason was like, “Nup, we are spending the whole five minutes talking about your camel toe.”

Will: We had to aircheck [review] the interview with our boss at the time who had secured us time with the Hollywood A-listers. He was like, “Why were you talking about your penis the whole time, Will?” He was asking questions about my camel toe and asking me to explain what it was. It was harrowing stuff.
