Kate Ritchie stuns with ‘iconic’ performance
Kate Ritchie was thrown under the bus at a charity event, with a fellow celeb offering to donate big bucks if she agreed to sing a song.
Kate Ritchie reluctantly stole the show at a celebrity-filled charity event in Sydney on Thursday.
The actress and radio host was one of the many big names who attended the Sony Foundation’s Wharf4Wharf fundraiser at Woolloomooloo Wharf.
Ritchie was minding her own business at the lunch when her Nova 96.9 breakfast co-host, Wippa, threw her under the bus and said on the microphone that he’d be willing to donate some money to the cause … on one condition.
“I looked at Kate and I said I’ll donate $1000 if you sing that theme song from Home and Away,” Wippa said on air on Friday morning.
Wippa could tell immediately that Ritchie was not impressed, so he doubled the offer to $2000.
Being the good sport that she is, Ritchie agreed and brought the house down with a stirring rendition of the soap’s theme song.
“It was great fun,” Ritchie said about her surprise performance on Nova on Friday.
When asked what made her agree to do it, Ritchie joked: “If I want to get out of here (Nova) and stop wasting my life and begin that music career I’ve always hoped for, what better way than to unleash the beast than at a Sony Foundation charity event.”
Ritchie’s performance received rave reviews on social media, with viewers labelling it “iconic” and “gold”, with another person even calling for Ritchie to release an official remix of the theme song.
Ritchie is no stranger to singing.
In 2006 she appeared on the TV show It Takes Two which paired celebrities with professional singers who each week competed against each other in a sing-off to impress a panel of judges.
The actress was paired with Troy Cassar-Daley and finished fourth, beating out other celebs including cricketer Michael Bevan, AFL star Richard Champion and James Packer’s ex, Tziporah Malkah (formerly known as Kate Fischer).
