Isla Fisher opens up about Sacha Baron Cohen, one day after Sunrise snub

ISLA Fisher abruptly shut down talk of her husband on Sunrise yesterday — but had a complete change of heart this morning.

IT’S not unusual for a major celebrity to shut down personal questions mid-interview — so Isla Fisher doing exactly that on Channel Seven yesterday with a terse “I don’t talk about my private life” wasn’t such a big deal.

However, fast-forward just 24 hours and the Australian actor was more than happy to talk about hubby Sacha Baron Cohen for nearly half of her six-minute chat with Nova 96.9’s breakfast show Fitzy and Wippa.

So what gives, Isla?

The former Home and Away actor, who’s starred in hit movies like Wedding Crashers, Now You See Me and The Great Gatsby, has recently turned author and is now promoting her first children’s book, Marge in Charge.

That was the subject matter during the Sunrise interview yesterday, when co-host Samantha Armytage naturally segued into a question about Fisher’s famous comedian husband.

“Does he read to your kids in funny voices?” Armytage asked.

Fisher was quick to shut down that line of conversation.

“He’s not here doing the interview. I don’t like talking about my private life.” With that, she was on to the next topic.

But it was a different story when Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli brought him up the very next day.

Fisher had been joking about her conservative relationship with her parents, when the hosts questioned whether she had to keep them away from her husband’s controversial films.

“I assume your mum hasn’t seen many of your husband Sacha Baron Cohen’s movies then?” Wippa asked.

That was all it took for Fisher to begin sharing family stories.

“My father is almost eighty, and he came to visit the family in Cape Town, and I invited them on-set to visit Sacha, without checking the call sheet of what they were shooting,” she revealed.

“And there was a giant elephant vagina — and he (Sacha) had his head coming out of it.”

She was also happy to participate in a segment with a throwback Nova interview of Cohen in character as Nobby Grimsby (from his film The Brothers Grimsby) where he talked about his wife.

“Yeah, I’ll hear it!” she laughed, before they played the audio of him jokingly confusing Fisher with her celebrity look-alike Amy Adams.

She also admitted she’d always admired his wacky brand of comedy.

“I’ve always had a sick sense of humour, so I don’t really bat an eye. I kind of like it ... it’s hilarious.”

Did Fisher have a change of heart, or was Sunrise just unlucky to get her on the wrong day?
