EM RUSCIANO’s struggling radio show has been dealt another serious blow with her co-host Harley Breen resigning on air this morning.

Breen made the announcement during their show on Tuesday morning, explaining that he’ll be finishing up radio at the end of the year.

“I’m heading back to the fiscally responsible job of being a touring stand up - very smart,” he joked.

“It’s by no means an easy decision, but it’s absolutely the right one.

“I love a lot of things that I’ve been fortunate enough to have in my life: my fiancee, my boys, and stand up. So I’ve made the choice to give those things my full attention going into the future.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given, and grateful to you Em for vouching for me - nay, flat-out forcing me on the people of Sydney.

“In my absence, I hope the show becomes the raging success it deserves to be.”

Rusciano broke down as she thanked him for joining her.

“I’m very sad you’re leaving. We’re great mates,” she told him tearfully. “Obviously everyone will be shocked, but I’m still here.”

Have You Been Paying Attention? star Ed Kavalee will be replacing Breen on the show.

In a statement, the Hit Network’s Head of Content Gemma Fordham described Kavalee as “superbly talented”.

“We know the Sydney listeners will love the addition of Ed to the show.”

It’s no secret The Em & Harley Show has floundered in its efforts to lift the network out of its ratings slump since taking over from Rove McManus and Sam Frost in the coveted breakfast slot at the start of 2017.

After a brief lift in audience numbers earlier this year, Em & Harley’s ratings dropped down to just a 4.0 per cent audience share in the latest radio survey, while WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda and KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jackie O both enjoyed a 10.3 per cent share.

Breen’s announcement doesn’t come as too much of a shock to industry insiders. News.com.au understands that he and Rusciano had a rocky relationship.

Back in May, the two co-hosts stopped speaking to each other off air for more than a week after they had a disagreement in the studio.
