Hamish Blake’s Row-Ho-Ho: ‘I’m just expecting myself to make weird whimpering noises’
HAMISH Blake made one stupid comment and now he’s paying for it. The comedian’s about to undertake one of his craziest physical challenges to date.
HE MADE a stupid comment and now he’s paying for it.
Spare a thought for Hamish Blake this Sunday who will be attempting to row 42 kilometres on an indoor rowing machine. Ouch.
“I think I might have accidentally said something along the lines of, ‘I think it’s possible,’ and unfortunately in my circle of friends, if you’re dumb enough to say something like that you’re immediately forced to prove it,” said Blake to news.com.au.
Dubbed Row-Ho-Ho, the radio and TV star has decided to turn the challenge into a fundraiser for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.
“I think without the guilt factor there, knowing that if I was giving up I would literally be stealing food off people’s tables who really deserve to have a good Christmas meal, without that factor I’d probably give up,” he said.
Blake, who is aiming to raise $42,000 for the Salvo’s, thinks the marathon row will take him roughly four hours to complete and it’s fair to say he’s dreading it.

“Anyone who has ever sat on an indoor rowing machine knows how un-fun they are,” he said.
“From the second half onwards I’m just expecting myself to make weird whimpering noises.”
So how has he prepared for the gruelling physical challenge?
“I’m in a serious carbohydrate loading phase ... alternating between spaghetti bolognaise and spaghetti carbonara,” he said.
This Christmas will be Blake’s first with his son, Sonny Donald Blake, who was born in May.
“I’m a big fan of Christmas and I think having a kid this year makes me even more appreciative of how much of a special time it is,” he said.
And the 32-year-old and his wife Zoe Foster Blake have big plans for Sonny’s first Christmas Day.
“A lot of his presents will just be us dressing him up relentlessly as an elf so it’s probably for the best that he won’t be able to remember this Christmas,” he joked.
“He’ll have more costume changes than Lady Gaga.”
