Hamish and Andy were “petrified” they were going to get in big trouble after a radio interview with singer John Butler went off the rails.

The incident is just one of the many behind-the-scenes stories the duo is set to discuss in the new podcast series, Hamish & Andy’s Remembering Project.

“We realised that we had around about 2600 run sheets,” Andy told news.com.au. “Our producers had kept run sheets from every single show we’d ever done and it’s got a singular line that describes in words what was happening in the show, and sometimes those lines make sense and other times they’re perplexing.”

Andy Lee and Hamish Blake have been broadcasting together for almost 20 years.

In the podcast series, Hamish and Andy pick a random date, then look at the run sheets they have from that date over their 20 years on air. They then pick one, look at the “singular line that describes what was happening in the show” and see if they can recall what was that segment was about and share behind-the-scenes stories from that show.

“You can only remember the big things, but the show is just as much about the things that may have gone wrong or that you don’t remember quite so well,” Andy told news.com.au.

“In one upcoming one it was a post-ARIAs show (early on in their radio career) and I remember John Butler swearing on air and we were panicking because we were told if a swear word went to air the licence for the radio station could be revoked.

“Hamish and I were recalling that and when we listened back to it we were like, ‘That’s actually pretty tame really,’” Andy laughed. “Probably through our petrified eyes and ears it would have felt like the worst thing ever to happen.

“It’s fun discussing what your mood was like at the time and then comparing it after listening back to it.”

On some occasions Hamish and Andy look at the randomly selected run sheet and have absolutely no memory whatsoever of what that show was about.

“One was, ‘Jackie Chan is best mates with Kevin Rudd,’” Andy said. “And I’m like, I can’t even remember that!”

After discussing their memories or lack thereof of the segment in question, Hamish and Andy listen back to the audio on their podcast and see if it matches up with their memories.

“Some of the sponsors made me laugh … The fact that our show was thanks to Blockbuster at one point,” Andy giggled.

“I did manage to find one run sheet that said, ‘Hamish’s new girlfriend has a cat.’ And of course that’s Zoe (who Hamish is now married to) and that’s now his family cat, so it’s kinda interesting going, ‘OK, I wonder how Hamish is going to talk about his new girlfriend even though 10 years on he’s got not just the cat but two kids alongside it.’”
