Hamish and Andy address rumours that they are headed to breakfast radio with hefty list of demands
HAMISH and Andy have revealed a long list of demands that must be satisfied before they would take on a high-profile breakfast radio gig.
HAMISH and Andy have revealed a list of demands that management must satisfy if they want the radio duo to take over hosting the 2Day FM breakfast show next year.
Speculation is rife that the funnymen will soon be named as replacements for Jules Lund, Merrick Watts and Sophie Monk, whose breakfast show in the lucrative Sydney market has struggled in the radio ratings.
Hamish Blake and Andy Lee addressed the rumours on stage at the Commercial Radio Awards in Melbourne last night with a hilarious speech in which they told Southern Cross Austereo bosses exactly what it would take for them to sign on the dotted line.
“If everyone agrees to keep it in the room and we can keep it as a secret as promised, we’ll let you in … we are officially in negotiations with SCA to perhaps do a breakfast slot next year,” Lee said.
“But that’s only if our breakfast show contract demands are met and they are sizeable,” added Blake, before listing off the first of their requirements.
“Southern Cross Austereo management agrees to organise for everyone in Australia to now get up at midday and for the Australian workday to legally start at 2pm at the earliest,” Blake said.
“If we’re assigned to 2Day FM, Sydney’s hit music station, we require that whole building to be moved to our home town of Melbourne,” Lee joked.
“Andy gets twice as many sick days as Kyle gets in his contract at Kiis FM,” Blake demanded.
“Management must understand that this could mean Andy doesn’t show up for three years straight.”
The radio duo added that they MUST get John Laws as their newsreader and “gossip dude”, before Blake added their last and biggest demand.
“The radio show cannot interfere with Andy’s television commitments next year … TV’s The Bachelor,” he said.
Hamish and Andy’s speech was the highlight of the night at the event in Melbourne, which saw WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda and 3AW Breakfast take home the big awards of Best On Air Team for AM and FM.
An actual announcement about Hamish and Andy’s radio future is expected within two weeks.
