Gable Tostee talks to KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O: ‘I don’t kiss and tell... anymore’

GABLE Tostee was grilled about his Tinder use by Kyle and and Jackie O who wanted to know how many women he’d slept with since he was acquitted of murder.

GABLE Tostee revealed to Sydney radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O he doesn’t “kiss and tell anymore” about his Tinder dates and said he wishes he had cameras rolling inside his apartment the night a New Zealand woman died.

Earlier this year, Tostee challenged media to a live interview to discuss the aftermath of his case after being targeted by trolls online. He was found not guilty of murdering Warriena Wright, a Wellington woman he met on Tinder while she was holidaying on the Gold Coast in 2014.

Ms Wright fell to her death from Tostee’s high-rise apartment balcony. It was never alleged he threw her off the balcony — instead the Crown case argued the 26-year-old was so fearful of him she tried to jump down onto the balcony below.

This morning Tostee told KIIS FM’s Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson he had “no doubt” he was going to be acquitted by the Supreme Court jury late last year.

It was only then he could tell his side of the story, initially in a paid interview with the Nine Network’s 60 Minutes, and then through statements on his Facebook page.

“When you are accused of something you don’t get a chance to defend yourself ... until two years after the accusation.”

Sandilands asked Tostee, who now goes by the name Eric Thomas, about his use of Tinder recently — including how many times he had sex from it since the trial ended.

“How many people have you slept with on Tinder after this — have you got a number...are you doing all right on there or not good?” he asked.

Tostee laughed and said, “no comment” to which Sandilands asked: “Better than before or worse?”

“I don’t kiss and tell,” Tostee told him before adding: “Not anymore.”

A man purporting to be Tostee had previously boasted of 150 sexual conquests in the same apartment he took Ms Wright home to.

He’d been on the dating app a year “before everything” and “never really had any problems”, he said.

“And then after the charge part of bail conditions prohibited going on Tinder, then after acquittal I still had a girlfriend.”

The couple are no longer together and Tostee revealed he doesn’t use Tinder frequently. He said it was “hard to say” how many women he met or chatted to online knew about his past.

“Not everyone brings it up.”

But it was something he wondered if they were doing to be polite or if they genuinely weren’t aware of his infamy. “It’s the elephant in the room.”

Most people who came up to him in person were friendly, with many stopping him at night in bars to ask for a picture with him.

“A lot of people who approach me in a friendly way have done their research, they’ve read the transcript or listened to the audio, and have delved into it.”

He could normally “suss out” who knew about what he’d been through over the past three years.

Henderson suggested to him he was “obsessed” with recording things, after a recording of his and Ms Wright’s night was played to the murder trial.

“Obsessed is the wrong word. I think it’s good practice if you are in a vulnerable situation ...You hit record and leave your phone in your pocket...”

When it was put to him the phone recording in fact “saved him” he answered: “I would like to think the witnesses and forensic evidence would have filled [the gaps] but at the same time you just don’t know.”

He then said: “I wish I had video cameras in there.”

Since the trial ended he has been subjected to threats and taunts from people online, including people saying they wanted him chopped up into pieces.

“It’s psychopathic stuff. I’ve never dreamt of saying to someone [those things]. Those people are the kinds of people that should be on the news.”

He said a joke he made on International Women’s Day —where he wished “all ma hoes” a happy day — was taken the wrong way and was not meant to be misogynistic.

Henderson challenged him on that point.

“When did you put that up? This year? But you know you’re under the microscope particularly with anything you say ... people will latch onto it.”

Tostee dismissed it as “fake outrage”.

“I have nothing against women ... It’s outrage for the sake of outrage.”

The harassment had almost exclusively been online and not in real life.

“Most trolls hide behind screens, most people in real life are curious ... I find it surreal.”

Tostee said he hadn’t worked since his arrest and was now studying architecture. He didn’t think he would stay on the Gold Coast forever and planned to eventually travel overseas.
