KATE DeAraugo has spoken candidly about her weight battle and darkest days of drugs and depression before, but not like this.

The former Australian Idol winner opened up to KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O today about going into hiding when she was at her heaviest and being “out of control in every aspect” of her life.

“Drugs, depression, the lot. Anything, I did it,” the Aussie singer admitted to the radio duo.

“Anything and everything. I was out of control in every aspect of my life.”

The 29-year-old, who once weighed 127.5 kilos and went on to shed exactly half her body weight, said she made sure no one saw her in public when she was that heavy.

“Basically, after the Young Divas lost the plot I went into hiding ... After that, I really lost the plot and just ate myself into a mess.”

Having dieted since the age of 15 and finally hitting rock bottom, DeAraugo said a conversation with her doctor resulted in her gastric sleeve surgery in May 2012, which saw 80 per cent of her stomach removed.

“I remember the exact moment - I got out of the shower and I was puffing, and I went, ‘Kate, this is not acceptable. You are 27 years old and your grandmother is fitter than you.’”

DeAraugo is currently writing a book, Confessions of a Fallen Idol, which she says details her dark past. “I just needed to get everything out there ... It was a messy time, I’m not proud of it, I don’t say it’s a good thing,” she said.

DeAraugo shared her incredible weight loss story with Woman’s Day back in January, posing in a bikini for the first time on the cover.

“I burst into tears when I saw the results of Woman’s Day’s shoot. I still can’t believe I was standing on a beach laughing … and also looking good,” she told the mag.

“I’ve actually lost more than I weigh, I feel amazing,” DeAraugo shared with Kyle and Jackie O.
