Fifi Box reveals her best, worst and most awkward celebrity interviews
FIFI Box has opened up to news.com.au about her best, worst and most awkward celebrity interviews, including which star got a little too touchy-feely.
FROM getting straddled by a randy actor to sitting down with a famous husband and wife on the day they filed for divorce ... yep, Fifi Box has had her fair share of awkward celebrity interviews.
And the good news, we can expect to hear even more now that she’s landed another radio show on Today’s Hit Network.
To celebrate her new weekly hourlong program BOXED IN, Fifi spoke to news.com.au about her best, worst and most awkward celebrity chats.
Q: Which star surprised you the most?
A: The guest that really took me by surprise, because I didn’t know much about him at the time, was Russell Brand. By the end of the interview he was straddling me, grinding me inappropriately and trying to kiss me. So that was a very strange encounter.
Q: What’s the worst interview you’ve ever done?
A: My worst interview, and it was my fault, was when I was in LA interviewing stars for Scream 4 and Shrek 4. I walked into an interview with Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette but it was the weekend they broke up. Everyone was buzzing that they’d gone public with the fact their marriage was over and then of course you’re being told by publicists that you cannot mention their marriage breakup.
Suddenly I was sitting in the hotel room with a married couple who have just broken up and I had to interview them about their film and all I could think about was, ‘You’ve just broken up!’
So I barely spoke because I was so worried that I would say the one thing I’m not supposed to talk about.
Q: Do you consider that to be your most awkward interview as well?
A: Well, often when you do film junkets you have to interview the whole cast, so once I walked out from the Arquette’s, one of the publicists grabbed me and told me she was taking me down the hall to interview the next stars.
Often on the door it says who the stars are but I hadn’t grabbed it in time and it was the two guys in Scream 4 who played the deputies. I had no idea who they were. I literally sat down and it was like that scene in Notting Hill where Hugh Grant speaks to the stars and pretends he’s from Horse & Hound.
I stared the interview with, ‘Well guys, well done! Are you excited to be part of the Scream 4 franchise?’ And they’re like, ‘Yeah, particularly because we’ve been in it since Scream 1.’ I didn’t even know their first names. It was a very awkward exchange.
Q: Which male stars made your heart skip a beat during your one on one?
A: In my experience, the Hollywood heart-throbs that you drool all over, when you meet them in person you think, ‘Oh, you’re just an ordinary guy’.
It’s the sneaky ones that you were never really that fussed about.
Denzel Washington was so charming and charismatic but my favourite was Clint Eastwood. I didn’t see that one coming. You assume he’s like your grandfather but then you’re like, ‘Clint’s still got it!’
Q: Who is on the interview wish list for BOXED IN?
A: Charlize Theron is my girl crush. Last time we spoke she said she’d be happy to marry me. Now she was probably joking but I’m going to get rid of Sean Penn and hold her to it.
And Pink. It’s all about redemption with Pink. I absolutely adore her, and for our last face to face chat I was pregnant and hormonal so I cried. I need a chance to show her I’m normal and not a crying mess.
Broadcast nationally across Today’s Hit Network, BOXED IN airs in a one hour slot every Sunday from 5pm.
