Em Rusciano opens up about Wilosophy interview

Em Rusciano has opened up about the infamous interview that wreaked havoc with her radio gig, admitting she was “trying to blow my life up”.

Em Rusciano's radio meltdowns

Em Rusciano has opened up about her career in breakfast radio, including her now-infamous podcast interview which sparked a media storm.

Rusciano quit her gig on the 2Day FM breakfast show last September after radio insiders revealed that she created a “toxic work environment” at her station.

In May 2018, Rusciano had also unleashed a profanity-laden rant in an interview with Wil Anderson’s Wilosophy podcast.

In the chat, Rusciano had criticised co-workers and admitted she was not suited to breakfast radio.

In an Instagram question and answer session this week, one of Rusciano’s followers asked if she “ever regretted doing something that changed your career dramatically”.

“No,” Rusciano replied. “I think you’re referring to the Wilosophy podcast and you know I did listen back to that and I realised I was trying to self-sabotage.

“I was obviously trying to blow my life up because I was not very happy. So in hindsight, that was a good thing.”

In a “casual bombshell alert” Rusciano announced her departure from breakfast radio on air last September, explaining it had become “increasingly harder to fulfil the requirements of my job” while she was pregnant.

“This Friday will be my last day on-air for 2Day FM breakfast, and I want to make it crystal clear that this is entirely my decision and not one I made lightly,” she said at the time.

“The truth is when I found out I was pregnant, I made my mind up on the spot that this year would be my last year of breakfast radio.”

Rusciano started hosting the breakfast show with Harley Breen at the start of 2017 after Rove McManus and Sam Frost were dumped from the timeslot.

There were persistent rumours that Breen and Rusciano clashed behind the scenes and the stand-up comedian left the show at the end of the year.

Have You Been Paying Attention? star Ed Kavalee and former Family Feud host Grant Denyer were announced as Rusciano’s new sidekicks at the start of 2018.

In her Wilosophy interview Rusciano said that she was hit really hard when Breen decided to walk away from the breakfast show.

And she made it clear she didn’t get to hand-pick Breen’s replacements.

“Then, like Ed (Kavalee) and Grant (Denyer) were, like, they were put in the show,” she said.

“And I, all of a sudden, got two co-hosts that I’d never really met or spoken to, and then I’m expected to have this instant chemistry with. And it was just hectic. And it was The Em Rusciano Radio Show. It was my show, and all of a sudden Ed’s anchoring, the show’s called The 2Day FM Breakfast Show, like I took all these big ego hits.”

Since leaving breakfast TV last year Rusicano has kept busy, giving birth to baby boy Elio in January.

She is also going on a national comedy tour later this month.
