‘Disgusting’: John Laws hangs up on Kyle and Jackie O

Jackie O has bowed out of The Kyle and Jackie O show this morning, shortly after a celebrity interview went south.

UPDATE: It’s been a dramatic morning for Kyle and Jackie O, with one of the hosts leaving the show to seek medical attention after feeling unwell.

Jackie O had to leave the show early, as she was feelinng unwell and experiencing tingling in her arm, one day after going under a general anaesthetic for surgery to remove a cervical polyp.

“She just stepped out for a lay down. She’s got like a corset dress on and she had an operation yesterday,” Kyle explained, later telling listeners she would be seeking urgent medical attention.

Earlier on in the show, it was the battle of the Australian radio titans, as veteran broadcaster John Laws hung up on Kyle and Jackie O, refusing to participate in an interview he’d booked for their show.

Laws was due to appear on the show to discuss his milestone 70 years on-air – but the radio legend changed his mind when he heard the segment before his: Jackie O discussing recent surgery she’d had to remove the cervical polyp.

She said the surgeon operated on her “via the colon or the vagina, I’m not sure which.”

“You’d feel it if they went through your a**hole,” said Kyle.

“What must I have looked like on the operating table? Nude, shower cap...” Jackie O said, confessing she found the male nurse looking after her attractive.

The typically candid chat so offended Laws that he hung up before he could be put on-air – so Kyle and Jackie O called back, and found themselves live on-air with his assistant.

“Is it true he got angry about Jackie’s disgusting story?” Kyle asked.

Kyle pinned the blame on Jackie.

Jackie O: “I was talking about a medical procedure!”

“He just doesn’t like it, Jackie. He doesn’t like following all that talk about vaginas,” the female assistant said, before asking her boss: “Are you going to talk to them?”

Laws could then be heard, exchanging pleasantries with Kyle while reiterating that he was “not going to talk.”

“I was talking about a medical procedure! It wasn’t gratuitous,” Jackie objected.

“But it’s the way you talk about the medical procedure. Anyway, I’m not interested,” said Laws, hanging up again.

“Look what you’ve done,” Kyle teased his co-host, who was visibly exasperated that a chat about a medical procedure could’ve so offended Laws, a frequent guest on the show.

Later on in the show, after Jackie O had bowed out early due to feeling unwell, Kyle called Laws back on-air to explain what had happened. He said his co-host had been running on “one hour’s sleep,” and he had to send her home to recover.

“I was very surprised at that talk, that’s all. Never mind,” said Laws.

The on-air mishap occurred a day after another Kyle and Jackie O celeb interview went south, with team member Intern Pete chastised by the hosts on-air over his interview with country music legend Dolly Parton.

“We were scheduled to do an interview with Dolly Parton. Intern Pete was in charge of organising that interview and, for one strange reason or another, he forgot to let us know,” Sandilands told listeners.

“We left for the day and then Pete jumped into the studio and Zoomed himself up there with Dolly Parton.”

Sandilands said he was astounded by Pete’s “full bulls**t story”, in which he lied to Parton about Sandilands and Henderson being late to the interview, when they knew nothing about it.
