DAVE Hughes will today make his return to full time radio with Kate Langbroek. But there’s one of his co-host’s habits that he’s not looking forward to being subjected to again.

“She’s very quick to point out my shortcomings,” said the funnyman to news.com.au.

“Her honesty when it comes to my faults is her most annoying habit.”

Hughesy and Kate, who quit their Nova Melbourne breakfast show at the end of 2013 after 12 years together, will today start their new drive show (4 — 6pm) on ARN stations across the country.

“The time off just made me relaxed about everything in general,” said Hughes.

“I think now I’m more relaxed about my place in society and society’s place in space. I’m more relaxed. Look, I’m relaxed. What I’m trying to say is that I’m relaxed. I’m taking it seriously but I’m relaxed.”

As “relaxed” as he is, the popular entertainer admits that he’ll still be a little worried about radio ratings, especially when heavyweights Hamish and Andy return to the drive slot on Southern Cross Austereo in July.

“I’d like to work in radio in some totalitarian regime where I have the only radio show,” joked Hughes.

“I’d really prefer that no one else was allowed to broadcast.”

The 44-year-old says he is particularly excited about his return to radio because it means he can once again chat to D-grade celebrities.

“The most fun I have on radio is interviewing people who’ve just been evicted from a reality show and are talking about their incredible journey,” joked Hughes.

“I love talking about how I was such a big fan of theirs even though I may not have ever watched what they did for one second.”

So if hearing interviews with booted reality stars isn’t your cup of tea, why does Hughesy think radio listeners should give his new show a chance?

“God I don’t know,” he said.

“They’ll enjoy it I think. I think it’s different, but then everyone says that ... Just have a listen and don’t just turn straight off. Just give us a go.

“I’ve got a really good heart. I’m a really nice guy and Kate’s lovely. I mean she’s quick to judge and condemn but apart from that she’s lovely.”

You can listen to Hughesy & Kate from 4pm on KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne, KIIS 1065 in Sydney, 97.3FM in Brisbane and Mix 102.3 in Adelaide.
