THE cutthroat world of commercial radio looks set for another big name shake up, with industry insiders saying 2DayFM’s Rove McManus and Sam Frost will be moved from breakfast to the drive timeslot when incumbent hosts Hamish and Andy’s contract for Southern Cross Austereo’s Hit Network expires.

The move of the low-rating but expensive duo — with McManus’ contract rumoured to have cost SCA $3.7 million per year, although Frost was signed for the much lower fee of $250 000 per annum — could pave the way for a revamped line up in the hope that a fresh schedule can claw back rating points for the embattled radio network.

In the last ratings survey, Rove and Sam recorded a tiny 3.3% audience share behind FM leaders Kyle and Jackie O‘s 9.9 slice of the audience. 2DayFM had an overall market share of 4.4 in the same survey.

Now SCA are said to be grooming Em Rusciano for the breakfast slot, with her newly announced Sunday night program viewed as a testing ground for the former Australian Idol contestant to take over the reins for the more high profile slot of the breakfast shift.

There are also whispers Rusciano could be teamed with TV presenter Osher Gunsberg, best known for fronting the Channel 10 Bachelor and Bachelorette series’.

Gunsberg has been plying his wares with his own podcast for some time now, and is a recent addition to the Hit Network’s Brisbane breakfast team.
