Brisbane’s ‘Robin, Kip & Corey Oats’ breakfast show axed after ratings dip
A Brisbane breakfast show has been axed in a shock move amid rumours Kyle and Jackie O are set to replace them.
KIIS 97.3 has announced the axing of its Brisbane breakfast show, Robin, Kip & Corey Oates.
The announcement comes just months after Oates joined the team following his retirement from the NRL in 2024.
In a statement, a spokesperson for ARN confirmed the show’s final broadcast will air on Friday, December 12, thanking hosts Robin Bailey, Kip Wightman, and former Broncos star Corey Oates for their “hard work, creativity, and commitment to the Brisbane audience.”
“Their contribution has been significant and will be celebrated in the weeks ahead,” the statement read.
“In 2026, KIIS 97.3 will launch a new, live and local breakfast show that will be bold, entertaining and fast-moving.”
In an internal email, seen by Mediaweek, it was revealed that while they “can’t reveal details just yet” the new show “will be bold, entertaining, and fast-moving.”
The new show will be announced at the company’s Upfronts next month.
But, in a surprising turn of events, it won’t be a networked Kyle and Jackie O.
When asked if Kyle and Jackie O would be calling Brisbane their new network home, following their lukewarm reception in Melbourne, Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) Chief Audience and Content Officer Lauren Joyce told Mediaweek: “Until we can prove their success in Melbourne, we won’t be taking them into Brisbane.”
It comes after Kyle and Jackie O dropped in the ratings yet again in Melbourne, coming in at a measly eighth in the rankings.
The duo dropped by a whisker earlier this month, 0.1.
It was enough to see them beaten by 3AW’s Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft (+1.3 to 20.3), GOLD104.3’s Christian O’Connell (+0.8 to 10.9), Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Nic (+0.5 to 9.5), Nova’s Jase & Lauren (-1.6 to 8.4), Smooth’s Mike Perso (-0.2 to 7.8), Triple M’s Mick in the Morning with Roo, Titus and Rosie (-0.7 to 7) and ABC Melbourne’s Sharnelle Vella and Bob Murphy (+0.9 to 6.4) and slide back a position from seventh to eighth.
The loss to a strengthened ABC Local Radio will hurt the pair, with Sandilands previously threatening to pull the pin in Melbourne if the program failed to build on its meagre gains.
In Sydney, where the gap between the two highest rating breakfast shows and the rest of the playing field widened, Sandilands and Henderson posted a 13.6 per cent market share to finish second behind 2GB breakfast talkback star Ben Fordham with 16.8.
