Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy star shuts down Nova host over love life question

Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli’s interview went south fast after he attempted to get intimate details from one of the stars of the Bridget Jones sequel.

'None of your business': Star shuts down radio question

Australian radio host Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli suffered through an at-times trainwreck interview with the cast of the Bridget Jones sequel, met with a brick wall while trying to get intimate details from one of the stars.

The Nova co-host sat down with Renée Zellweger, Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor to interview the trio about their upcoming rom-com Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, the fourth film in the beloved franchise.

Wippa leant into the theme of the film – oft centred around the titular character’s unlucky in love shenanigans – in an attempt to get the dirt on the cast’s private lives.

Where Zellweger, 55, laughed off and dodged answering the questions, Woodall, 28, was simply having none of it.

Kicking things off, Wippa shared his own assumptions about the actors’ respective romantic strategies, posing to Zellweger she was likely a serial-friendzoner, while he believed Ejiofor, 47, as someone who was “far too keen” in relationships.

Finally, Wippa assumed Woodall would adopt a “treat ‘em mean keep ‘em keen” policy, prompting awkward giggles from Zellweger and a totally bemused look from Woodall.

After some silence, the radio star launched into his next, rather upfront, question.

“Are you in love Leo?” he asked, to which the UK actor responded, “That’s none of your business.”

Leo Woodall wasn’t eager to come to the table with Wippa’s personal questions.

Wippa then brutally threw his producer under the bus, trying to salvage the awkwardness by saying, “So true mate, I’m glad you said that. That would’ve been intrusive. Maddy, who wrote these questions, Maddy that’s a shame moment for you.”

The host then turned the topic of the conversation to ghosting, levelling a loaded question again in Woodall’s direction.

“I loved a moment too [in the film] on the topic of ghosting, I think we’ve all been there, where you look at a series of text messages in a relationship, even if you realise you’ve done all the writing, and there might’ve been one grey [message] back, but yours is all blue and a lot more length,” Wippa mused.

“Everybody has been through those moments where you think, ‘It’s OK to message again? I’m sure it’s OK?’

“Have you had one of those moments Leo?”

After a few seconds, Woodall offered, “I got lost in the question.”

Zellweger mostly giggles throughout the chat.

Wippa continued, “Well, when you look at the transcripts and you realise you’re doing the heavy lifting trying to make it work … Not a good feeling, ghosting, is it?”

Woodall had clearly checked out at this point, with Ejiofor jumping in to wrap things up.

“Horrible. It’s a horrible thing to happen,” Ejiofor said, before Wippa concluded the chat.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy hits cinemas February 13.
