‘Barefoot and dishevelled’: Molly actor Samuel Johnson cancels interview at last moment

MOLLY star Samuel Johnson reportedly pulled the pin on a radio interview just moments before he was meant to be on air.

SAMUEL Johnson, who stars as Molly Meldrum in this Sunday’s miniseries Molly, reportedly pulled the pin on a radio interview just moments before he was meant to be on air.

The 38-year-old was locked in for an interview on FIVEaa’s Leon Byner in Adelaide on Thursday morning but had to pull out at the last minute.

While rumours are swirling Johnson may have had a little too much fun the night before at Adelaide bar 2KW for Channel Seven’s program launch, it might not be down to just one night of partying.

Showbiz reporter Peter Ford has suggested on Twitter there’s mounting concern for the actor following some erratic behaviour.

“Barefoot & dishevelled he wasn’t able to proceed with a planned interview, the last of a gruelling national publicity tour. He sure does march to the beat of his own drum,” Ford wrote.

“Those at the radio station were concerned by the weird behaviour & disappointed he couldn’t proceed with planned interview.

“In the last week he’s revealed he is broke. He’s also revealed Molly demanded a ‘gay kiss’ be edited from the mini series. His insistence on wearing the same T-shirt to interviews & launches is indicative of bohemian style thinking. Most great actors are a bit peculiar. Sam is both.”

FIVEaa’s program director Craig Munn was brief when he spoke to The Advertiserabout the rescheduled interview.

“We thought it would be best to save the interview for another day,” he said.

Word of Johnson’s radio no-show comes off the back of comments he recently made that he’s “dead broke”.

The likeable and knockabout actor told AAP he has not been cast in any role since he finished on Molly almost a year ago.

Most of the past year he has spent working for his charity, Love Your Sister, which raises money for breast cancer research, or performing voiceover work.
