Anthony Albanese refuses to hand over Taylor Swift ticket to megafan, insists he’s a ‘real Swiftie’
Anthony Albanese had a brutal response for a Taylor Swift megafan who said she would “do anything” to get his tickets to the star’s concert on Friday.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has declared he is a “real Swiftie” after being grilled on why he doesn’t give up his Taylor Swift tickets to a desperate fan.
Mr Albanese was confronted this morning on 2DayFM by hosts Hughesy, Ed and Erin over whether he would be prepared to give up his tickets for someone who has missed out.
The Prime Minister has previously confirmed he is attending Friday night’s show where hundreds of thousands of Sydneysiders who managed to get a ticket will join him.
“But what if you gave your ticket away to a real Swifty fan, like a real fan? Someone struggling?,’’ he was asked.
2DayFM then introduced him to caller “Natalie” who said she was desperate for a ticket.
“I’m a huge fan of you, but I’m a bigger fan of Taylor,” caller Natalie said. “I would do anything for these tickets. I will campaign for you. What do you want?”.
She also revealed that she had lost out on previous Taylor Swift tickets to the 2018 Reputation tour as a result of a “loser ex-boyfriend” who didn’t vote Labor.
“You gotta ask them which way they vote early on,” Mr Albanese responded.
But he then refused to hand over his tickets.
“I reckon 2-TayFM can sort you out,” he said. “I am going on Friday night and I am a real Swifty.”
After the radio hosts praised him for his deft handling of the issue he said, “That’s why I am Prime Minister”.
Mr Albanese appeared live on Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie earlier this week and agreed to let an enthusiastic Swiftie know she had won tickets.
“I’ve spent at least 50 hours just watching Ticketek go round and round, thank you so much,” the emotional fan told the PM.
Kate Ritchie, a self-confessed Swiftie, also gifted Albo with her favourite friendship bracelet that features the words “Invisible String” in a reference to the Folklore album.
But he took a potshot at Peter Dutton, accusing him of being a fan of one of the most divisive bands on the planet.
Mr Albanese, who first claimed to be a Swiftie in 2022, confirmed he was going to the concert.
“I am going to Tay Tay,” the prime minister told Hit WA FM on Tuesday.
But when asked if he thought Opposition Leader Peter Dutton was also a fan of the global megastar, the Prime Minister joked that Mr Dutton was possibly a fan of the Canadian band Nickelback.
“Nickelback, I reckon,” he said. “Or, the angry death metal stuff.”
