THINGS continue to go from bad to worse for the 2Day FM breakfast show featuring Sophie Monk, Jules Lund and Merrick Watts.
The fourth round of radio ratings which were released today show that the 2Day FM show has sunk to its lowest ratings yet with just a three per cent audience share.
Despite the plummeting ratings, Southern Cross Austereo’s head of content, Craig Bruce, insists that the company will continue to stand by the show.
“The show is working hard and sounding great and we’re happy with how it’s coming together,” Mr Bruce told news.com.au.
“Sydney is a tough market. You’ve got three top 40 stations (2Day FM, Nova FM, Kiis FM) competing for essentially the same audience and we’re the newest show on the block and this year was always going to be a challenge in terms of building an audience quickly.
“But I’m not concerned based on what I’m hearing out of the speakers which is the most important element.”
The new 2Day FM show launched at the start of this year after Kyle and Jackie O defected to the newly established Kiis FM.
The Jules, Merrick and Sophie show has struggled since it launched but Mr Bruce was adamant they won’t be changing the line-up any time soon.
“Breakfast shows take a long period of time to grow,” Mr Bruce said.
“It’s very hard to put a particular date or end game on any particular show because the growth path of breakfast shows generally tends to be slow and steady.”
In the heated Sydney FM brekky battle, Jonesy and Amanda from WSFM extended their lead over Kiis FM’s Kyle and Jackie O with Triple M’s Grill Team in third spot and Nova FM’s Fitzy and Wippa in fourth.
