Outlander season 5: How to watch period drama in Australia

Outlander is one of the most popular TV dramas out there, with its new season generating plenty of buzz. Here’s how you can watch in Australia.

If you aren’t on the Outlander bandwagon, we mean it when we say you’re really, really missing out.

The incredibly popular period drama, which follows the tumultuous journey of epic lovers Jamie Fraser and Clare Randall, is now in its fifth season. New episodes air weekly on Foxtel* in Australia.

Given the new episodes are exclusive to Foxtel, we’ve broken down all the different ways you can tune in and stay up to date.

Outlander, which is halfway through its latest season, airs Mondays on Fox One at 7.30pm, express from the US. Past episodes are available on demand for 27 days after airing.

WATCH ON YOUR COMPUTER

To stream Outlander season 5 from your computer, you’ll want to use Foxtel Now (from $25 per month). It comes as part of the Drama Extra pack, which is $10 per month in addition to the base pack. You can watch the new season live, plus some catch-up is available through this service. Foxtel Now can be purchased within minutes and used immediately on your own device, including laptops, tablets and smartphones.

Prefer to watch, record and replay the action from your big TV at home? You will need to sign up to a Foxtel residential subscription. This means a technician will arrive and set you up with an iQ4 set-top box. Keep in mind, it will take three business days to arrive, but given the rush on subscription services during COVID-19, it may take a little longer. But when it does, you will be able to watch the new episodes live with the rest of the world or record them and watch them later. This subscription also gives you access to Foxtel GO, Foxtel’s mobile streaming service, which you can use immediately as soon as you sign up, so that should help as you wait for your installation.

If you want to watch the new season live during a sneaky break while you WFH, Foxtel GO is for you. It’s a feature that automatically comes with a Foxtel residential subscription and with Foxtel Now.
