One month down: Is Channel 9's The Voice falling flat already?
IT'S been the top-rating show since it kicked off, but there's every chance The Voice might have peaked too soon, with contestants failing to deliver last night.
IT'S been the number one rating show since it kicked off a month ago, but there's every chance The Voice might have peaked too soon, with contestants failing to impress viewers last night.
After members from Team Seal and Team Ricky dug deep for their performances during Sunday night's episode, it was Team Delta and Team Joel's turn to step up to the plate.
But how did they do? Meh, they were OK.
With the blind auditions and battle rounds well and truly wrapped, this is the moment the lofty ratings started to take a nose dive last year. But the show still grabbed a whopping 1.962 million viewers last night, which means viewers are certainly still intrigued. But is The Voice only a couple of pitch imperfect performances away from tanking?
Delts, who wowed last night in a purple Grecian number and some distracting arm bling, said she was just excited to see her artists shine on the stage. But viewers were left divided as to whether or not any of her four nailed it.
Rob Edwards gave a passionate but oh-so-serious rendition of James Arthur's hit Impossible. Unfortunately from the couch it proved near-impossible to understand a single word he was singing.
I don't think rob believes himself........ So it's a lil hard to believe him ð³ #TheVoiceAU
Jackie Sannia followed with Arithmetic by Brooke Fraser. Obscure song choice, but the coaches loved it, particularly Seal, who's choice word was "spellbinding".
Josh Kyle sang Settle Down by Kiwi fave Kimbra. Tough gig. Josh did his best with the risky choice but fans weren't convinced.
Muso industry veteran Steve Clisby - and Delta's "ageless" save card from the Battle Rounds - sang Billie Holiday's God Bless The Child. This was clearly a winner and the coaches all laid it on pretty thick. Ricky was so overcome with emotion that all he could manage was to ask Steve for a hug.
Team Joel's recruits followed suit. First up was Danni Hodson with Kelly Clarkson's Stronger. The coaches were "awed", yet the running theme among Twitter fans seemed to be "solid karaoke number".
Well I think Danni turned in a nice karaoke performance. #thevoiceau
Next up was Adam Garrett who tackled Animal by Neon Trees. Safe to say this is one the postie failed to deliver. (See the vid above if you need a reminder)
Kiyomi belted out a version of Upside Down by Paloma Faith. Everyone's loving this girl's "quirky" talent, but could it prove to be her undoing in the long run?
Finally, wrapping up a somewhat lacklustre evening was Michael Paynter, and viewers were expecting a performance bigger than that 'top hawk' he's sporting.
The coaches were full of praise for his Daryl Braithwaite number. Personally, we couldn't help but think how uncomfortable he must have been wedged behind the piano in those super skinny jeans.
Highlight of the night? Joel's newly neon hair. And THAT is saying something.
lmao tonight Joel's hair looks like @skull__tattoo's hair at the BTWBall #TheVoiceAU
Has Joel dyed his hair blue or is he about to reveal that he IS Papa Smurf. His skin leaking out of the back of his head. #TheVoiceAU
