News anchor’s frustrated facepalm moment with Trump supporters
CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota asked where Trump supporters were getting their information. The answer left her dumbstruck. Cue facepalm.
THERE’S perhaps none so blind as those who refuse to see.
That’s what CNN news anchor Alisyn Camerota discovered when she sat down with a group of proud President-elect Donald Trump supporters to discuss the US election and their hero.
Mr Trump’s claim that he lost the popular vote because “millions of people” voted illegally at the November 8 election has been debunked, but some of his supporters are sticking by it.
Camerota appeared stunned they still believed it despite it being proven to be false.
“Voting is a privilege in this country and you need to be legal, not like California where three million illegals voted,” vehement supporter Paula Johnson told her as the fake claims were raised in the interview.
Camerota took her up on the issue. “Let’s talk about that ... where are you getting your information?” she asked Ms Johnson.
“From the media ... ..some of it was CNN, I believe,” Ms Johnson replied.
“CNN said three million illegal people voted for California?” an incredulous Camerota challenged.
“It was coming all across the media. If CNN didn’t do it then they were being smart this time,” Ms Johnson replied.
“Do you think that three million illegal people voted?” Camerota pressed on.
“I believe in California that there were illegal voters,” Ms Johnson said, adding that “nobody really knows” how many “but there was a good amount because the President told people that they could vote”.
Asked “did you hear President Obama say that illegal people could vote?” Ms Johnson and another Trump supporter assured Camerota “yes”, they did.
“Where?” asked Camerota.
“Google it ... you can find it on Facebook,” the second woman said.
Camerota duly did so, finding a heavily edited clip which she says shows President Obama “in fact he had said nothing of the sort when you go back to the transcript”.
The claim has been disproved, but Ms Johnson remains unwavering in her belief California “allows” undocumented immigrants to vote: “I believe there is voter fraud in this country.”
It ends with Camerota’s frustrated facepalm.
