Mystery surrounds TV star Noel Fielding’s sudden disappearance
Where is Noel Fielding? The UK comedian has suddenly quit his own TV show and fled the country amid concerns for his wellbeing.
Mystery surrounds UK comedian Noel Fielding’s wellbeing and whereabouts, with the star said to be suffering a “mystery illness” that’s led to his own high-profile TV project being abandoned in recent weeks.
Fielding, 51, was the titular star, co-writer and executive producer of Apple TV+ comedy series The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin, which was midway through filming its second season before going on break before Christmas.
The Sun reported last week that the entire production had to be cancelled when Fielding never returned from Christmas break.
The sudden axing left hundreds of cast and crew members out of work. The Sun reported that they were told simply the decision was down to “the illness of a key cast member”.
“Naturally, the rumour mill is in overtime as to what has happened with Noel, but it must have been very serious to axe the whole show,” an insider told the outlet.
“In most circumstances execs will at least consider pausing filming, but for some reason they decided to throw in the towel before the situation got any worse.”
Deadline reported that despite production being well underway, there was no possibility of salvaging what had already been filmed to create a scaled-back season: “There is no hope of getting the show back on the road.”
The Sun also reports that furious cast and crew plan to band together to file a class-action lawsuit about the sudden axing of the series – legal action that could target Fielding, given his status as an executive producer.
Fielding reportedly left the UK for France before the announcement was made, and has not been seen in public since.
Today, a worrying update landed: MailOnline reported that bosses at Fielding’s most high-profile job, as host of iconic UK TV show Great British Bake Off, are “preparing for [him] to make a sudden exit” from the show.
The long-running TV baking competition is set to start filming a new season in April, but the outlet reports that Channel 4 bosses are “drawing up contingency plans” should Fielding not return.
The Mail quoted a Bake Off insider as saying that those behind the scenes of the show were “of course, worried to learn about Noel’s ill health, and will do everything they can to support him.”
Meanwhile, a source from Fielding’s axed Apple TV+ show gave some insight into the circumstances around his departure to The Times: “Noel has said that he can’t film any more and so there was no choice but to stop. It’s not a decision that was taken lightly and they wouldn’t have got to this extreme result if every possible solution hadn’t been exhausted,” they said.
“People have been very concerned about Noel’s wellbeing and given him time to recover but there are also significant repercussions. Some people are furious.”
