Toddler freaks out after meeting Sesame Street’s Elmo
People have been moved to tears after watching the heartwarming moment Elmo surprised a two-year-old Aussie superfan.
What happens when a toddler who’s obsessed with Sesame Street comes face-to-face with Elmo?
A whole lot of cuteness, that’s what.
Charlie, 2, is the son of news.com.au entertainment reporter, Bronte Coy, and the youngster’s passion for Sesame Street is well known in the office.
Bronte regularly shows us photos of Charlie with his favourite Elmo toy, and we all saw pictures from Charlie’s Sesame Street themed birthday party (even though none of us received invites … awkward).
So when Elmo and his best friend Abby Cadabby announced they were coming to Australia to celebrate the launch of Sesame Street’s Season 53, we knew we had to arrange a surprise meeting.
Bronte told Charlie that he was coming to the news.com.au office to see where she worked and to meet her co-workers (we didn’t meet at his birthday party because we never received invites … do I sound bitter?).
When Charlie arrived, he had a quick play at Bronte’s desk, spun around on her chair a few times, and boosted office morale by high-fiving every news.com.au team member.
Bronte then told Charlie he had to cover his eyes as there was a surprise waiting for him in the video studio.
What happened next was absolutely adorable (you can watch the surprise in the video at the top of this page).
News.com.au has been flooded with comments from people who were touched by the video.
“How wonderful. I cried,” wrote Jane Barker. “I’m 64 and Elmo and Abby are as real to me as they are to Charlie.”
Mirjana Pantelic wrote: “This is so divine for the little mite. He’ll remember this for the rest of his life. Just gorgeous.”
And Ann Kerridge commented: “It makes me smile to see that even after all these years Sesame Street is still bringing endless joy to children.”
Sesame Street airs on ABC Kids at 6am and 9.30am each day. The new season of Sesame Street includes celebrity guests like First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Samuel L. Jackson, Brett Goldstein and Ava DuVernay.
