Today hosts read out mean comments from viewers at the end of their first week on air
The hosts had a giggle this morning as they read out some of the not so nice things people have said about the new Today show line-up.
The new Today show hosts capped off their first week on TV together by reading out some of the not so nice things viewers have said about their performance.
“It’s been an interesting week,” Deb Knight, who replaced Karl Stefanovic as a full-time co-host, said at the end of today’s show. “A lot’s been said; good, bad and some of it indifferent”.
Georgie Gardner added, “we welcome feedback, it keeps us honest, it keeps us laughing”, before new sports presenter Tony Jones joked, “it keeps us crying”.
The new Today line-up then read of some of the many comments they’ve received from viewers in their first week, some of which weren’t too nice.

“This was an interesting one,” Knight said. “Ros sent in a message to us via Facebook. She said, ‘saw Today for the first time a couple of days ago … A disjointed conversation with a pair of scruffy, unkempt blondes. Looked like they’d just climbed out of bed and hadn’t even brushed their hair’.”
The two female co-hosts laughed off the comment with Gardner saying, “we had just jumped out of bed at 3 o’clock in the morning!”
Tom Steinfort, who replaced Sylvia Jeffreys as newsreader, read out a comment that he received from a viewer that said, “back off the Botox, champ”.
“Mate, I assure you if I was spending money I’d be getting hair plugs, I wouldn’t be getting Botox first,” he said in response.
Gardner joked to Steinfort, “count your lucky stars you’re getting ‘Back off the Botox’, because I usually get, ‘You need the Botox, we can see your wrinkles’.”
Gardner said a viewer referred to her and Knight as “tuck shop ladies” and another made it clear he was less than impressed with two female hosts fronting the show.
“A big thank you to John who said, ‘this just looks like a mothers meeting or a feminist rally’,” Gardner said.
Today’s new entertainment reporter, Brooke Boney, was missing from the segment but is arguably the host who has received the most feedback during the first week on air after her impassioned plea to change the date of Australia Day on yesterday’s show.
Given the controversial topic Boney discussed, Tony Jones joked on air during this morning’s segment, “if in the event we’ve got two hours to fill, let’s get Brooke in because yesterday was quite eventful”.
Wrapping up the segment, Knight assured viewers that “we’re doing our very best to bring you the very best show we can every single day”.
Gardner added, “Yes, it is a fresh team, it is a new line-up and change can be hard for some people to get their head around, but for those of you in support, thank you very much, we greatly appreciate it”.
