‘This took a huge toll’: Karl Stefanovic’s wife Cassandra Thorburn breaks silence on split

KARL Stefanovic’s wife Cassandra Thorburn has fired up on her split from him in an emotionally charged Facebook rant.

KARL Stefanovic’s wife Cassandra Thorburn has acknowledged her recent split from the Today host in an emotionally-charged rant on Facebook.

In the post, Thorburn slyly acknowledged the recent ratings win for Nine’s flagship show and detailed the role she’s played in the program’s success since her husband joined as co-host 12 years ago.

“Apparently Today Show finally won a year,” she wrote.

“This took a huge toll on my family and I, and I’m congratulating myself today for all the effort that went into making that happen.”

Thorburn, 44, also noted the creative and editorial input she’d had on Today, as well as the support she’s given her husband at home.

“The suggestions, the story ideas, the constant counselling of questions for years,” she added. “I’m giving myself a pat on the back tonight, as I know many people will also know how much effort I put into it.”

The Facebook post comes as Channel Seven and Channel Nine feud over the ratings of their breakfast shows, with Seven disputing Nine’s claimsToday has won the majority of the 35 rating weeks.

In the social media post, Thorburn, 44, added she was celebrating her success by drinking a bottle of wine sent to her by Stefanovic’s manager.

“Found a lovely tipple to cheers myself. Thanks for the red Sharon Finnigan SF Celebrity Management,” she wrote.

Thorburn’s rant comes almost a month after news of her shock split from Stefanovic was splashed in the tabloids. It also comes just days after Stefanovic made a quip about his split during a live segment on his breakfast show.

As co-host Lisa Wilkinson teased a story, asking viewers, “How much do you think your partner is worth?” Stefanovic interrupted, commenting: “Heaps”.

In the past, Stefanovic has spoken of how Thorburn gave up a promising career at the ABC to raise their children, Jackson, 16, Ava, 11, and 10-year-old River.

Radio presenter and former Today presenter Ben Fordham previously told Fairfax: “There’s no question that Cass is a crucial ingredient in Karl’s success.”

“I think she’s ambitious for him … because she wants the best for Karl and she knows how talented he is.”

According to The Sunday Telegraph, the Today host is understood to have moved out of the home he shares with Thorburn and their three children, and is believed to be staying at his close mate James Packer’s Bondi apartment.
