Sunrise win the ratings war with Today plummeting
After the Today show’s ratings soared last week, Sunrise came back with a bang, reclaiming their top spot as Australia’s leading breakfast show.
Channel 7’s breakfast television show Sunrise continues to be the leading program across Australia.
As per the most recent OzTAM numbers that were released on Saturday, the show hosted by David Koch and Sam Armytage achieved a weekly average of 273,000 viewers.

Rival breakfast show Today dragged behind with a weekly average of 212,000.
Sunrise also recorded the highest numbers in each capital city, including Brisbane where Today once won.
It was in September when Today had finally caught up to Sunrise, and their numbers had started to soar.
In fact, the show hosted by Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon won the east coast ratings.
Today had beat Sunrise by 195,000 to 181,000 across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Despite that, Sunrise was still the most popular breakfast television show across the nation.
They had a viewership of 259,000 compared to Today’s 229,000.

The week prior, Today had a victory on the east coast, with a combined average audience of 191,000, beating Sunrise’s of 189,000.
It was a huge win for Today, which was previously 70,000 viewers behind Sunrise in June.
Channel 9’s chief executive, Hugh Marks commented on Today’s progress while speaking to investors last month.
“If you look at morning segments, Today show numbers are up around 10 or 15 per cent year-on-year and continuing to grow. Karl and Ally are doing a good job there for us,” Marks said.
Karl has also allegedly signed a new contract with Nine. Langdon and the rest of the team are understood to be locked in multi-year deals.

Karl’s newfound success comes as he claimed that his performance in 2018 wasn’t the best, with his personal life headline news in many media outlets.
He said at the time: “Towards the end of last year, I was cooked. It had taken its toll, a lot of the [media] attention – all the unwarranted attention I thought, and you can’t control any of that.
“I’m not going to complain too much about that, but what it meant was that in a work capacity I don’t believe for a second I was at my best. I think I was struggling towards the end of last year.”
Meanwhile, as Today’s numbers started to improve last week, a shake-up at Channel 7 saw Kochie and Sam returning to their hosting duties full-time.
The Daily Telegraph reported that they were ordered to return to their hosting duties.
“They are back five days a week,” Seven News director Craig McPherson said on Friday last week.
Both hosts had been on a four-day working week, with their newsreader Natalie Barr filling in for Armytage on Mondays and Koch on Fridays.
Armytage, 43 had taken a step back in June, while Koch, 64, started working four days a week in 2018.
At the time he had explained that “his work schedule was taking a toll as there were other things he wanted to do.”
