Sunrise star lashed for taking both parents to Paul McCartney concert only to order Uber home for mum
Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac is copping flak from his fans for leaving his mum out of a once-in a lifetime moment.
Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac is copping flak from his fans for leaving his mum out of a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Mac shared an otherwise touching video on Monday of the moment he surprised his father with tickets to former Beatle Paul McCartney’s Sydney Concert at Allianz Stadium over the weekend for his 70th birthday.
The catch was that his mum, who was there for the surprise announcement, wasn’t invited.
“I’ve been lying to you both – there is no bar,” Mac told his parents, who thought they were heading to a bar called ‘SPM’ for a drink.
“There is no bar called SPM … SPM stands for Sir Paul McCartney,” he told his elated parents.
“Paul McCartney!” his excited mum screamed.
But his mother’s excitement was short-lived.
“Sorry mum, you’re not coming,” he laughed.
“I’ll get you an Uber mum, it’s fine, you came to the Logies.”
The snub didn’t slip by his fans, who bombarded the popular television host’s TikTok page with furious comments.
“Justice for mum,” one fan emphasised.
Another said, “Having sat through the Logies myself, it’s just not a fair comparison”.
“Worse still, he brought her all the way there first and made her go home,” lamented another.
Mac was forced to clarify to the hoard of fans seemingly baffled by his snub.
“Mum is normally the one getting spoiled. We had a great dinner,” he explained.
“Dad and I rarely get one-on-one time. This was dad’s night, dad’s birthday. So special.”
Mac’s father appeared stunned, welling up as he launched at his son with a passionate hug.
The video shows the pair having a ball as Mac and his father sing along to Beatles, hits A Hard Day’s Night, Hey Jude and Let it Be.
“That will never be surpassed,” Mac’s father is filmed telling his son as they leave the stadium.
While the mum-snubbing dominated Mac’s comments, others praised Mac for the sweet gesture.
“Core memory made,” one fan wrote.
“Good on ya Sam – doing this for your parents,” another commented.
“How beautiful you are to surprise them … you will always have that moment,” said another.
McCartney is currently still in Australia for his Got Back Tour and has played shows in Adelaide, Melbourne, Newcastle and Sydney, with shows in Brisbane and the Gold Coast yet to come.
The tour has so far received critical acclaim with five-star reviews from The Guardian, four stars from the Sydney Morning Herald, and glowing write-ups in the Australian Financial Review and The Daily Telegraph.
