Sunrise presenter Mark Beretta reveals cancer news amid split from wife of 22 years
Mark Beretta has shared more major news about his personal life, as his shock separation from long-term wife Rachel made headlines.
Sunrise presenter Mark Beretta has shared some happy news after his shock divorce made headlines at the weekend.
The Sydney-based sports reporter, 57, who was back on-air Monday morning, confirmed on Saturday he and his wife of 22 years, Rachel Beretta, had separated. The couple share two children, Ava, 19, and Daniel, 16.
“At the start of the year, after a great deal of reflection and 22 years of marriage, Rach and I came to the conclusion that a separation was best for us,” Beretta said via a Seven spokesperson.
“We remain good friends, and our two children and grandchild remain our focus and priority as we move forward with love, dignity, and respect.”
Taking to social media the following day, Beretta uploaded a photo of himself enjoying the sunrise at the beach, revealing his beloved father, David, had won his cancer battle.
“It’s a new day and I am grateful,” Beretta began.
He continued: “Thank you medical scientists, cancer researchers, oncologists and wonderful nurses because this week you saved my dad’s life.
“Medical science is astounding. Never thought I would need the work of our brilliant researchers or the breakthroughs funded by the awesome [non profit charity, Tour De Cure] team, but this week my dad needed it all and more.
“My entire family is eternally grateful and I will be stepping up my efforts with this great charity. Heartfelt thanks to all.”
Beretta’s colleagues shared their support for the veteran TV star in the comments section, with weather presenter Sam Mac writing, “Sometimes karma does the right thing.”
Ex-Sunrise host David Koch added, “Great news mate”, while news reporter Edwina Bartholomew said, “Wonderful news. All our love to your Dad.”
It comes after Beretta’s split from Rachel, who he wed in 2001, emerged at the weekend. They quietly parted ways earlier this year.
Up until recently, the family lived in Mosman, Sydney, in a luxury home which was sold in May for $13 million after the listing price was slashed by $1.75 million.
Beretta, who has been working for Channel 7 since the 90s, has been the sports presenter on Sunrise since 2004.
In June, he opened up about balancing the pressures of his high-profile career with his family life.
“Looking back, you think, I would have loved to spend more time at home, but life is what it is and you make the most of it,” he told Now To Love.
“I love my job so much and I love being with the team.
“It’s just never on my radar to change careers or to not be part of Sunrise. It’s such a magical work opportunity. I mean, we do over four hours of live TV every day, you know, a lot of people on TV don’t do that a week or a month.”
