BREAKFAST television is set to become a permanent Stef-fest, with Peter Stefanovic the logical choice to replace Cameron Williams as permanent co-host of Channel Nine’s Weekend Today.

Peter Stefanovic is tipped to join older brother Karl as first choice for Nine’s breakfast team seven days a week, after a summer spent as fill-in co-host on Weekend Today alongside Deb Knight, who is now on maternity leave.

Nine is moving to fill the gap left by the shock exit of Cameron Williams after contract negotiations for a new deal with Nine stalled.

Peter Stefanovic, 32, has been back in Australia for almost one year following eight years on the road as a foreign correspondent for Nine, and has been in a relationship with Today’s Sylvia Jeffrey since late 2013, when they co-hosted Today together over Christmas.

Gold Logie winner Karl Stefanovic, 41, has co-hosted Today since 2005, and late last year re-signed with Nine and Today after three long months of negotiations in a deal believed to have made him the highest paid man in Australian television.

Former sports presenter Williams has exited after a decade with Nine in various roles including sport, co-presenter on Weekend Today and stand-in host on A Current Affair and Nine’s 6pm new bulletin.

His manager, Sharon Finnigan, said Williams was now a free agent, with rumours Williams may follow former Nine Sports boss Steve Crawley to Fox Sports being dismissed by insiders.
