Sonia Kruger leaving Nine to rejoin Seven, according to reports
Today Extra presenter Sonia Kruger is ditching Nine in favour of its biggest rival after inking a massive new deal, according to multiple reports.
Popular Nine personality Sonia Kruger is defecting from Nine to return to her old stomping ground at Seven, according to multiple reports.
According to TV Blackbox and Daily Mail, the Today Extra host has agreed to a “seven-figure” deal to return to her former network in 2020, nine years after first defecting to Nine.
It’s understood Nine had initially presented Kruger, 54, a new three-year contract worth over $1.5 million, but negotiations had broken down and she had accepted Seven’s offer.
Recent reports had suggested that Kruger was on the cusp of signing the new Nine deal, but a source close to the star told Daily Mail that in the end, Nine “couldn’t justify paying her what Seven was prepared to pay.”
Both Nine and Seven declined to comment when contacted by news.com.au.
Kruger quit Seven after 14 years in November 2011 and was revealed as Nine’s newest recruit just weeks later.
Since then, she’s hosted the mid-morning show – originally called Mornings before its rebrand to Today Extra in 2016 – alongside David Campbell, along with the former Big Brother series and The Voice since 2015.
Just last week, the TV presenter shared a tweet spruiking the return of the singing competition in 2020.

Speculation is rife that she will be named as new host of the revamped series of Big Brother, which was recently acquired by Seven and will air in 2020. Kruger previously hosted the Nine version of the show.
It’s not yet known whether Kruger will see out her Nine contract, or finish up immediately.
Kruger’s big move will put her back in the same building as her partner, Craig McPherson, who is Seven’s Director of News and Public Affairs.
The move to Seven comes a week after reports claimed that Kruger’s role at Nine was “under review”.
It’s rumoured Georgie Gardner and her co-host Deb Knight will be replaced as hosts of Today next year by Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon.
Last Friday, Stefanovic rang into Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa show and joked about his rumoured return to Today after being axed in December 2018.
Having taken part in a charity cricket match with the radio hosts a day earlier and being on the winning team, Stefanovic said on air: “That’s what I keep trying to tell Channel 9, that I’m the lucky charm. If they want to pad me up and send me in I’m ready to go in and we’ll have a win.”
The Channel Nine breakfast show has struggled in the ratings since Stefanovic’s departure and last week suffered its worst result ever.
