‘Relentless barrage of selfies’: Aussie influencer mistaken for Ryan Reynolds at Taiwanese train station
An Aussie influencer was hit with a “relentless barrage of selfies” after being mistaken for Ryan Reynolds at a Taiwanese train station.
An Aussie influencer has been swarmed at a Taiwanese train station after fans mistook him for his supposed celebrity doppelganger, Ryan Reynolds.
Shaun Birley, a travel and fashion influencer, was repeatedly asked for selfies by passers-by as he waited to board a bullet train in the south of Taiwan.
Posting a video of the mix-up to Instagram, Birley asked his followers, “How do I tell them I’m not Ryan Reynolds?”
The look-alike was asked for selfies by 14 different groups of people during the hilarious video.
Birley told Today’s Karl Stefanovic on Wednesday how the change-up went down.
“(I was on a) sort of travel tourism job and that was like day one or two of us being there and we had the camera crew with us as well,” he said.
“Then of course we were filming a bit of content with the crew and then one person came over and was like, ‘Deadpool’?”
“And I was like, ‘Nah, I’m not’, and they’re like, ‘Can I get a selfie?’, and I said, ‘I’m not him’.”
Birley’s confession did nothing to dissuade those requesting a selfie, who he guessed had reached the impasse of a “language barrier”.
“Once the ball started rolling, it was a relentless barrage of selfies after that,” he said.
Birley said the Taiwanese people had been extremely friendly during his stay and that he had no plans to capitalise on the resemblance.

“My mates try to,” he said.
“They’ve always asked me to put stuff up on socials about sort of posting about it.
