NSW State Election: Karl Stefanovic teases Dominic Perrottet for ‘daggy dancing’

Dominic Perrottet copped several digs while appearing on breakfast TV on Monday, with Today hosts trying hard to get the Premier to flaunt his dance moves.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has copped jokes for his “daggy dancing” and family of what Today host Karl Stefanovic joked was “26 kids”.

With less than two weeks until the state election, the Premier fronted Today on Monday morning to speak about the government’s major Kids Future Fund election promise.

The keystone policy will see all NSW kids under 10 be eligible for a bank account which could grow to $49,000 in 18 years.

The government will deposit $400 into each account initially, and will match family contributions of up to $400 a year. Mr Perrottet claimed the fund would accumulate $28,000 in 18 years through maximum government contributions plus compound interest alone.

Under the plan, the child would be able to access the funds once they turn 18, however they can only use it on expenses related to housing and education, like buying a laptop for study, textbooks, HECS fees, or to buy property.

While Stefanovic and co-host Sarah Abo were positive towards the policy, they saw an opportunity to throw a cheeky dig at the Premier.

“You have 26 kids. How will you afford this every year?” Stefanovic joked.

He was referring to the Liberal launch on Sunday, where Mr Perrottet made the policy announcement while sharing the stage with nearly three dozen children. The Premier’s wife, Helen, and their seven kids joined him on stage after his speech.

“They weren’t all mine behind the stage yesterday, Karl,” the Premier responded.

“I thought you were about to say they are not all yours. Poor Helen,” Stefanovic quipped back.

Mr Perrottet also copped a few digs at his “daggy dancing” during a visit with seniors at a Carss Park Community Centre on Friday.

The Premier was seen doing the Macarena while seated to the tune of ‘We Are Family’ by Sister Sledge.

“Just letting it all slip. It makes me wonder what Helen saw in you but there you go,” said Stefanovic as the footage played on-screen.

“You have a crack. I’m better at Disney dancing,” Dom responded.

“That’s weird as well,” said Stefanovic.

Co-host Sarah Abo tried to get the Premier to replicate the dance while live on air.

“Go on, Premier. What could go wrong? There is only a week to go,” she said.

He declined and said it was “a bit early for that Sarah. A lot could go wrong”.

Abo then joked: “Chris Minns would have done it”.

Mr Perrottet will head to the polls on March 25 where will seek a historic fourth term of government for the Coalition. He will be challenged by NSW Labor led by Opposition leader, Chris Minns.
