‘Not that remarkable:’ Mystery around Karl Stefanovic’s Covid result

In the days before he’s supposed to return to Today, it appears Karl Stefanovic may have been nursing a secret Covid diagnosis.

He might be slated to rejoin the Today team from Monday but front man Karl Stefanovic may have caught Covid-19 during his break from the show.

According to The Saturday Telegraph’s Saturday Confidential sources have suggested Stefanovic and his wife, Jasmine Stefanovic had to return from their Noosa holiday early after receiving a positive result on January 2.

It’s believed the pair then returned to their Sydney Castlecrag home in order to isolate with their daughter Harper.

Quoting an anonymous source, they shared their confusion over Stefanovic’s secrecy.

“I am not sure why his people won’t confirm it. It’s not that remarkable having Covid,” they told the publication.

“When Dickie got it, he was in the first round when there was a stigma attached to it, and he still owned it.

“There’s no shame in getting Covid. It’s not the bubonic plague!”

In a comment to news.com.au, a spokesman from Channel 9 said that while they weren’t able to confirm whether Stefanovic had indeed come down with Covid, both him and co-host Allison Langdon were “definitely returning to the air on Monday”.

This comes as the network released a new promo for their return on Friday.

The 30-second clip, saw the pair recreate the iconic dance scene between Mia and Vincent from Pulp Fiction, with their co-hosts, Alex Cullen, Tim Davies and Brooke Boney also making a brief appearance.

In March of 2020, Nine’s Entertainment Editor and Weekend Today, Richard Wilkins shocked audiences after confirming his Covid diagnosis.

It’s believed he may have contracted the virus after briefly meeting Rita Wilson who tested positive for the virus shortly after, along with her husband Tom Hanks.

Speaking about his brush with Covid, Wilkins said that while he was “shocked” by his diagnosis, he appeared to be an asymptomatic case.

“I don’t have a sore throat, runny nose, headache. I feel terrific. Yet I contracted the thing and tested positive for it,” he told Today.

“Everybody I have spoken to they have said, ‘You are not going to pass it on until two days before you started showing symptoms. When did you get sick?’ I said, ‘I’m not sick. I don’t have any symptoms.’ They said in the early days they didn’t think people were asymptomatic, it now turns out they are.”
