NATALIE Barr teared up on television this morning, overcome with emotion at having reached a significant career milestone.
The Sunrise host marked 20 years at the Seven Network, with the entire team celebrating in Hawaii, where they are crossing live from this week.
Kochie said of his colleague: “This young, barefooted girl from the back blocks of Bunbury who started on the Wanneroo Times has now become one of the most well respected newsreaders on television. Natalie Barr, we are so proud of you.”
Sam Armytage added: “She’s one of the most genuinely supportive and wonderful women I’ve ever come across in my career, and I mean that.”
The Sunrise co-hosts proceeded to look back at Barr’s most memorable on screen moments, from her funniest Freudian slips to her toughest broadcasts, including her live coverage of the Sydney siege victims in December.
The 46-year-old newsreader was then honoured with one lei for every year at the network, and 20 customary kisses from some local Hawaiian men.
Here’s the aftermath.
Happy 20th anniversary, Nat.
