Mia Freedman hits out at Karl Stefanovic: ‘I was at your 40th! We were friends’
Mia Freedman has publicly hit out at Karl Stefanovic, revealing why she’s unimpressed with the Today host.
Australian media personality Mia Freedman has lashed out at Karl Stefanovic on social media, where she suggested the pair were no longer on close terms.
The digital publishing mogul, 51, took to her Instagram stories to air her previously-unknown grievances with the Today host, where she criticised him for refusing to feature on her popular No Filter podcast.
Freedman, who is a co-founder of women's website Mamamia, posted a selfie while watching Stefanovic on the breakfast show Tuesday morning, tagging the broadcaster’s official Instagram account and writing, “Hey [Stefanovic] why won’t you come on No Filter?”
On the next slide, Freedman posted a candid photo of Stefanovic.
She wrote, “My dude. You interview people for your job. You’re waaaay better at it than me. You’ve interviewed me for years when I was on [Today].
“I was at your 40th! We were friends.”
Finally, Freedman urged Stefanovic to “be brave” and speak with her on her show.
“Come on. It’s not a trap. The people want to hear from you,” she wrote.
“And by people, I mean women but also men. Millions of [No Filter] listeners in fact.”
It’s unclear why Stefanovic, 49, won’t agree to feature on Freedman’s podcast.
But the veteran TV journalist hasn’t appeared to have any problems in the past when it comes to accepting confronting interviews.
Most notably, Stefanovic broke down in tears during a heartfelt chat with his former Today co-host, Jessica Rowe, on the debut episode of her podcast The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show in 2021.
It marked the first time the duo reunited since Rowe was brutally sacked from the breakfast show in 2007.
In the interview, Stefanovic apologised to Rowe about the ordeal she went through with the Nine Network all those years ago, which included poor treatment from executives and revelations she was pushed out of the job unfairly.
“You didn’t have a guy next to you who could have helped you and protected you,” Stefanovic said at the time.
“I’m here to apologise to you, and I wish I’d been a better man. A stronger man. Not just for you, but for myself.
“Years later, when I was going through my third and fourth wave of [criticism], I was thinking, how did Jess Rowe survive?”

Stefanovic is yet to comment on Freedman’s post.
Freedman, who has been friends with Stefanovic’s ex co-host Lisa Wilkinson for more than 30 years, took to Instagram again on Wednesday, where she posted screenshots of news.com.au’s article about her outburst.
She wrote, “Didn’t mean for this to escalate [Stefanovic] but you have to laugh.”
