Karl Stefanovic’s cheeky question to US ambassador Caroline Kennedy
The popular breakfast host had the studio in fits of laughter after he posed a personal question to the US ambassador.
Today host Karl Stefanovic left the US ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy in a fit of laughter after he posed her a personal question.
Appearing on Today on Wednesday morning, Stefanovic took the opportunity to inquire about the relationship status of Ms Kennedy’s youngest child, John “Jack” Schlossberg.
“I hope that you don’t take any offence (to) what I am going to ask. My daughter wanted to know if your son is single?” he said.
The 30-year-old is the only grandson of former US president John F. Kennedy and has a law degree from the prestigious Harvard Law School. Mr Schlossberg also has a considerable social media presence, amassing 100,000 followers.
While the question elicited a laugh from the ambassador, her answer was discreet.
“You would have to ask him. I can’t answer that,” she said.
Stefanovic replied: “Good deflection.”
Ms Kennedy then joked: “Your daughter must be so mad at you right now. I would be so mad if I was your daughter.”
While Stefanovic has two daughters, Ava, 18, and three-year-old Harper, he said he was asking on behalf of Harper.
Ms Kennedy then joked: “Then there is something really wrong with you.”
Joining the gag, Today co-host Sarah Abo said: “Welcome to what the rest of the nation already knows.”
Ms Kennedy has been the US ambassador to Australia since April 2022. Prior to that, she was the US ambassador to Japan from 2013 to 2017.
