Karl Stefanovic’s 10 best moments on television

REMEMBER when that guy accidentally hooked a bird live on air? Or when Karl was still drunk? Happy 10th anniversary, Karlos.

KARL Stefanovic celebrates 10 years on air with the Today show this morning.

Co-host Lisa Wilkinson crunched the numbers and told Karl he had done over 8000 hours of breakfast television.

So we couldn’t think of a better way to acknowledge the massive milestone than with 10 of the lovable larrikin’s best moments.

In no particular order — because let’s face it, they’re all gold — Karl’s most memorable minutes in the spotlight.

1) Being drunk as a skunk during that infamous 2009 post-Logies broadcast. Mind you, he didn’t actually admit to being boozed until last year.

Karl Stefanovic actually went on to win a Gold Logie after that fateful year.

2) “The Dalai Lama walks into a pizza shop...”

Karl found himself face-to-face with the Dalai Lama in 2011 and couldn’t resist cracking a joke. It seemed like such a good idea at the time.

Here’s how it went down.

3) Stefanovic v Grumpy Cat in 2013. Karl’s “exclusive” interview with the global internet sensation proved one of his most challenging yet.

4) Today show co-host Ben Fordham got one over the serial prankster with the “Flaming Ron” — the world’s hottest chilli pie. Karl found out the hard way just how hot it really was. He ended up vomiting profusely after the show and had to lie down.

5) Just last month, Karl was duped by none other than supermodel Heidi Klum, who coaxed him into yodelling during a one-on-one interview, only to later reveal that she didn’t actually know how to yodel at all.

The prankster was pranked by the one and only Heidi Klum.

6) Karl’s blue suit experiment will go down in history as one of his best. He wore the same suit every day for a year on television to make a point about sexism. Karl later auctioned off the famous threads to raise money for White Ribbon Australia. His ‘same suit’ test made international headlines.

7) Last year, Karl attempted to break the world walnut-cracking record ... with his head.

That’s 155 walnuts in one minute. The result? Walnuts: 1, Stefanovic: 0.

8) That time he couldn’t resist trying his hand at the planking craze. Only, he didn’t quite get the gist of it.

9) One morning in 2012 when Karl dropped and gave Today show viewers 25, before writhing around the set and turning his push-up challenge into a strip show. It all ended pretty abruptly with him “pulling a hammie.”

10) “Peking duck, anyone?”

Quite possibly our favourite Karl interview. Proving there’s nothing quite like live television, he spoke to shark expert Paul Burt, who accidentally reeled in a live duck with his fishing rod during the segment.

Note, the duck was not hurt.

The Today show celebrated another special birthday today, with weatherman Stevie Jacobs also clocking up 10 years with the team. The duo spoke on air about their most embarrassing moments, career highlights and what it’s really like to be a part of the Today show family.
