TODAY Show host Karl Stefanovic says rival breakfast show Sunrise has sold out by filming overseas while Stefanovic’s crews stays on home soil.

The ratings war between the heavyweights of Australian breakfast television has become fair dinkum with Seven’s Sunrise filming in Hawaii and Nine’s Today shooting their show in various locations around Australia.

“Why would you want to go overseas?” said Stefanovic.

“Hawaii’s a bit of a ramped up Gold Coast, why would you want to go there? I don’t know why they’ve gone there when they could be holidaying and doing their thing in Australia, and promoting Australia.

“They’ll be sipping on their mai tais, putting on as many leis around their necks as they can while we’re actually doing something for the country, get that into you Sunrise.”

Executive producer Michael Pell fired back, saying Sunrise was the most “ocker” show on morning television.

“No one could accuse us of not being a fair dinkum Aussie breakfast show,” he said.

“We don’t rest on our laurels and we’re bringing our viewers with us on a holiday.”

Last September Sunrise filmed a US road trip a week before Today.
