Jesinta Campbell applauded for comments on the Adam Goodes booing saga
JESINTA Campbell, the fiance of Adam Goodes’ indigenous teammate Buddy Franklin, blew us away today.
JESINTA Campbell has made an impassioned speech during The Today Show this morning, condemning the booing of Adam Goodes and thanking him for his courage in standing up for indigenous rights.
Campbell, who is engaged to Goodes’ teammate and fellow indigenous AFL player, Buddy Franklin, received a round of applause from all on set after her eloquent comments during the Mixed Grill segment.
“Booing is a public form of bullying and Adam has come out and said that it is affecting him and everyone needs to stop,” Campbell said. “If you continue to boo him you are bullying him, it’s affecting his welfare, it’s affecting his family and his friends and it needs to stop.”
Campbell then said she felt that racism was the main motivation for the booing.
“Yes I think it is and to anyone who has never experienced racial vilification, racism is just a word to them, but for people who have experienced it, racism is a feeling and it is a horrible feeling from what I have seen.”
The 23-year-old went on to congratulate the player for paving the way for indigenous youth, including any children she and Franklin may have.
“Now I have to thank Adam Goodes, because my future children are going to be indigenous and because of his courage and his passion, he is creating a better future for not only my children, but all indigenous children, so for that I have to say, Adam you are a champion, on the field, off the field and I will stand by you.”
Campbell and Franklin became engaged in December last year.
