Former Weekend Sunrise TV presenter Talitha Cummins is quitting her media career after 20 years for a new adventure.

Former Weekend Sunrise TV presenter Talitha Cummins has called time on her journalism career.

The popular newsreader – who worked most recently as a newsreader on Triple M Sydney –

made the announcement on social media on Monday, revealing she has quit the media industry for good so she can focus on her new jewellery business.

“It’s a big day for me today,” the 43-year-old began in a lengthy Instagram post, which included several throwback photos of herself with the Weekend Sunrise crew.

“I’m officially cutting ties with a 20 year career in journalism/television + media consulting and launching my business in diamond and jewellery creating.

“It’s a big shift, but the move to launching my own business has given me an energy and drive like never before.”

Cummins said the move has been a long time coming as her as her family has been creating diamond jewellery for decades, so it was a no-brainer to join forces with her uncle and cousin to create a new business making bespoke diamond rings and fine jewellery using lab-grown diamonds.

Cummins became a beloved part of Seven’s Weekend Sunrise team in 2014 when she replaced Jessica Rowe as newsreader on the program.

However, in early 2017 while she was on maternity leave with her first child Oliver, she was let go as newsreader on the show.

The Daily Telegraph reported at the time that Seven News chief Craig McPherson phoned Cummins nine weeks after Oliver’s birth to tell her she was no longer under contract.

She was expecting to take up her post again on the hit weekend breakfast show, but instead was offered a weekday 5am slot.

“[She was] dumbfounded by the whole thing,” a source told the paper. “It was a complete shock and a massive slap in the face.”

The call came as Cummins was gearing up to promote her episode of Australian Story on ABC, in which she revealed her battle with alcoholism and four-year sobriety journey.

She claimed she had been sacked unfairly and took on the network for unfair dismissal. Cummins. Within four months, the Seven network reached a confidential settlement with Cummins for an undisclosed sum.
