Dramatic arrest caught on live TV during Today Show cross

A MAN was dragged kicking and screaming into custody outside police headquarters during a live cross on the Today Show this morning.

A MAN was dragged kicking and screaming into custody outside the Queensland Police Headquarters during a live cross on the Today Show this morning.

Nine news presenter Sylvia Jeffreys was crossing to Aislin Kriukelis in Roma Street, Brisbane when her 7.30am report was suddenly interrupted by a wild scuffle occurring in the background.

Kriukelis was midway through her cross when police began dragging the man away in full view of the television shot. Spotting the camera, he began shouting and resisting the officers, before being hurled out of view.

“Dramatic scenes right behind you, Aislin ... The police clearly engaged in activity there,” Jeffreys commented.

“Yeah, they’re clearly arresting someone here Sylvia, so we’ll find out what’s happening.”

Police later confirmed the man walked into the foyer of their building and was yelling and causing a commotion. They arrested him and were walking him to the watch house when he appeared on television.

Kriukelis said of the commotion: “I heard him yelling behind me but didn’t realise initially that an arrest was taking place so I just continued the cross.”

Nine reports the man has now been charged with public nuisance and obstructing police.
