DAYS out from what is shaping up to be the Fight of the Year, controversial boxer Anthony Mundine has spoken out about homosexuality — yet again.

Mundine says homosexuality is 'not all right'

DAYS out from what is shaping up to be the Fight of the Year, Anthony Mundine invited Andrew O’Keefe from Weekend Sunrise into his home for a one-on-one chat.

The three-time world champion referred to his upcoming fight against undefeated Belarussian Sergey Rabchenko as “do or die” but it was his remarks surrounding homosexuality that are likely to fire people up.

Referring to his comments from 2013, when the controversial boxer claimed Aboriginal culture and homosexuality are mutually exclusive, O’Keefe asked: “Do you still stand by your comments?”

Mundine replied: “100 per cent. I told you, I speak the truth ... I got nothing against homosexuality, if you’re gay, be gay. That’s your choice, that’s your right in this day and age.

“But don’t exploit it on prime time when there’s kids watching. And having sons come towards you and going ‘dad is that all right, for a man to kiss a man?’”

O’Keefe pressed: “Is it not all right?”

Mundine said: “With my belief and my culture, no it’s not. And in Aboriginal law, that’s forbidden.”

The Weekend Sunrise co-host then asked the celebrity boxer: “Well, even in Western law, Australian western law it was forbidden until very recently as well. But certainly there’s evolution in any culture. Do you see the possibility of Aboriginal cultures evolving to accept the different ways of being?”

Mundine replied: “No. Aboriginal law, it’s an old culture. It’s been here 40 thousand years, maybe longer. And it’s never been allowed. There is no changing this, changing that.”

Mundine landed himself in hot water over comments he made about the ABC series Redfern Now in November last year, declaring that Aboriginal culture and homosexuality don’t mix.

Mundine posted his comments on Facebook after watching an episode of the drama series, criticising the show for including a homosexual character that was representing Aboriginal culture.

“Watching redfern now & they promoting homosexuality! (Like it’s OK in our culture) that ain’t in our culture & our ancestors would have there [sic] head for it! Like my dad told me GOD made ADAM & EVE not Adam & Steve,” he wrote online.

The remarks were slammed as a “gay rant” by many, while some supported his views.
