Moment Walz learns of Swift’s endorsement live on TV

Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz discovered he had been endorsed by the pop star in a sweet moment on live TV.

Taylor Swift "Childless Cat Lady" endorses Harris over Trump for president

Tim Walz found out live on-air that Taylor Swift had endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as she runs for the office of President of the United States.

Waltz, the Minnesota governor who is Harris’ VP pick on the Democratic ticket for the President of the United States, was on MSNBC speaking to Rachel Maddow shortly after the 2024 presidential debate wrapped when news broke that Taylor Swift had endorsed Harris and himself.

“I am incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift and I say that as a fellow cat owner,” Walz said after Maddow read him part of Swift’s heartfelt Instagram statement, revealing that she had signed her letter as “childless cat lady”.

“That was eloquent and that was clear and that’s the type of courage we need in America to stand up. We’ve seen it out of those Republicans who were at the DNC. We’ve seen it out of women who would like to have their personal lives kept personal but are forced to go out there because they nearly died because they can’t get abortion services in a pregnancy. And now you have somebody like Taylor Swift coming out making that very clear. This would be the opportunity, Swifties: KamalaHarris.com, get on over there, get things going.”’

The global megastar broke her silence on Tuesday’s current state of US politics, voicing support for Harris over Donald Trump for the White House and calling the Democratic candidate a “steady-handed, gifted leader.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she posted on Instagram in the minutes following a televised presidential debate that saw the candidates face off for the first time, which Swift said she had watched.

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

She signed off her Instagram post by dubbing herself a “childless cat lady,” a swipe at a much-mocked sentiment expressed by Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance which he had wielded in a bid to insult Democratic women.

Swift endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 and has conveyed pro-LGBTQ messages through her songs and music videos.

However, in recent weeks conversation had been growing online amid the star’s silence, with many calling her out for not being vocal enough when so many things are at stake.

Swift’s massive popularity has also meant she’s a regular target for political misinformation and right-wing conspiracy theories, often fuelled by AI and amplified by the likes of Trump.
