RAY Hadley has launched a broadside at arch enemy Mike Carlton, describing him as "the most hateful and vengeful broadcaster I've ever encountered".

"His disgraceful comments following the death of Stan Zemanek set him apart from any other broadcaster or person that I've ever encountered," he told news.com.au

ZEMANEK BLASTS CARLTON FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE

Hadley's comments come as Carlton criticised an Australian Story profile piece on Hadley, in which an interview with Carlton was heavily edited.

Carlton took to Twitter with outrage, describing the ABC program's piece as "chocolate box crap".
Hadley said that he, too, had made comments when asked by the makers of Australian Story who he most disliked among radio broadcasters.

Hadley cited Carlton and said he had spent "about 30 minutes" giving his honest opinion, none of which was used in the final program.

"I had nothing to do with the production of the program either," he said. "I had no control over who they spoke to and if I had I wouldn't have allowed them to speak to Mr Carlton.

"I wasn't entirely happy with the show, but as I said, I thought it was fair and reasonable."

Hadley said his comments centred on Carlton's attack on Stan Zemanek, following Zemanek's death from brain cancer in 2007.

"Good taste dictates you don't speak ill of the dead," Mr Hadley said. "His bad taste knows no bounds."

Asked whether he would talk about Carlton's Twitter outburst on his program on 2GB tomorrow, or respond to any further comment by Carlton in his newspaper column, Hadley said he wouldn't be speaking on air and "the diminishing readership of the Sydney Morning Herald is not one of my concerns, that is the concerns of the [Fairfax] shareholders".

Earlier, Carlton launched a tirade on his Twitter page citing the Hadley profile piece as: "Chocolate box crap, which must have been done by his PR team".

He added that airing the program on the ABC was "bizarre ... a 30-minute commercial for a rival broadcaster."

His anger stems from the final cut of an interview he did for the program, which Carlton says was distorted by "selective, unethical editing".

News.com.au has approached Australian Story for a response.
