Lisa Wilkinson returns to The Project for hosting duties

After some time overseas, high profile Channel 10 host Lisa Wilkinson has returned to The Project tonight, and she’s never looked happier.

The high profile and often controversial host hadn’t appeared as a host on the show since mid-June.

Wilkinson, who had been in the United States, said she was happy to be back and then beamed throughout the entire show.

A segment from her time overseas was also aired on the show, showing her at singer and songwriter Ryan Tedder’s house.

After discussing his upcoming tour to Australia with band OneRepublic, Tedder played the piano while Wilkinson surprised viewers by breaking out in song.

She later told her Project co-hosts: “That interview should have come with a noise pollution warning.”

Wilkinson went on to explain that “Ryan said to me that sometimes he gets writer’s block and he doesn’t finish a song and I said I once wrote a song when I was eight, and I sang it to him and I got an accompaniment to it.”

Earlier on Sunday, she posted on her Instagram page: “Great to be back at the Sunday Project desk tonight after a few weeks on the road in the US gathering a whole bunch of stories for the show.

“Hope you can join us.”

The Australian had previously reported that during her time away from the desk, Wilkinson would be conducting interviews with musicians and movie stars from Hollywood and New York and filing stories for the current affairs program before taking more leave.

During her time away she did appear in prerecorded segments for the show, including one featuring Michael Klim.

Earlier in the week, Wilkinson shared a picture of herself standing outside the famous Hotel California in Palm Springs, where she was for work.

“Plenty of room at the Hotel California! I’m here in the US for some very special @theprojecttv interviews. Can’t wait to share more,” she wrote on Instagram, along with three love heart emojis.

And in early July, she appeared on rival network Nine as part of a program celebrating theTodayshow’s 40 years on air.
