Australian comedian Magda Szubanski’s new TV project has been pulled from schedules just days before it was due to premiere.

The upcoming reboot of game show The Weakest Link has been delayed days before it was set to premiere on screens.

Nine had previously advised that The Weakest Link would premiere 8:50pm next Tuesday, May 4.

But industry website TV Blackbox reports the new series will instead air later in the month.

A Nine spokesperson confirmed the line-up change to news.com.au, saying that “due to the tight production schedule Weakest Link will now launch at the end of May on Channel 9.”

In its place, Nine will air the movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in what would’ve been The Weakest Link’s timeslot next week, with another film set to air the following week.

News.com.au understands the show only commenced filming last week.

It comes after much-loved comedian Szubanski recently made headlines for a tweet in which she compared PM Scott Morrison’s wife Jenny to the fictional religious extremist characters in the television series The Handmaid’s Tale.

The backlash was swift, with a string of Coalition politicians criticising Szubanski for going after the PM’s wife.

Several female politicians spoke out against Szubanski, with Liberal MP Nicolle Flint calling her tweet “appalling” and “deeply nasty”.

Szubanski then appeared on A Current Affair to give her side of the story, saying her intention was to highlight the growing influence of ‘far-right Christians’ in political life.

“That was a mild way of drawing attention to the fact I do have concerns about, and trust me this is not about the majority of Christians, but the element of the far-right,” she said.

“And – they are really going to come for me now – I think that is a concern.

“I think that is quite legitimate to say in this country. I don‘t like extremes of any kind, is my stance.”

The Morrisons are evangelical Christians and prominent figures at their local church, Horizon, in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire.
