Kylie Minogue surprised to discover on live TV that Boy George leaked her new song before its release

Kylie Minogue was surprised during a live TV interview on The Project when told about her friend Boy George.

Kylie Minogue was surprised last night during a live TV interview when told her good friend Boy George had leaked her song ahead of its release earlier this year.

The Aussie singer was on The Project to promote her 16th studio album Tension when host Sarah Harris brought up its lead single, Padam Padam.

“Kylie, we had Boy George on the panel recently and he admitted to leaking the song before you were ready,” Harris told her. “Are you still speaking to him?”

After an awkward pause, Minogue, 55, couldn’t hide her surprise.

“He did?’’ she asked before scrunching up her face. “I didn’t know!”

Harris was just as surprised as she apologised for potentially causing an “international scandal”.

But Minogue didn’t appear too bothered by the revelation and continued the interview while defending the Culture Club singer.

“I would like to think it was just pressing the wrong button, or that he was very excited, but naughty George,” she said.

The pair’s friendship goes way back to when Minogue first made the move from Australia to the UK in the 90s after a stint on Neighbours.

Minogue says she didn’t know Boy George had leaked Padam Padam.

After an awkward pause, the singer laughs it off and calls Boy George “naughty”.

They have remained supportive of each other ever since and in 2015 when Boy George was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to British Music prize at the Ivor Novello Awards, it was the Aussie who introduced him to the stage.

“It was 1984 in Melbourne, Australia, there was this screaming girl at her first big concert, that was me at my first big concert,” Minogue said. “I had these ribbons in my hair and it was me as you.

“I’m really pleased to get to give this to you, I’m one of many millions of people who you inspired. I never thought I’d end up as part of the British music industry but your music was definitely part of what gave me that dream.”

Boy George has been friends with Minogue for decades.

Minogue released Padam Padam in May this year and it experienced success on the charts. It climbed to number 6 in the UK’s official chart and also became the UK’s most-downloaded song at the end of May, when it was released.

The song – which is supposed to mimic the sound of a beating heart – has also been the singer’s biggest hit in Australia since her 2012 song Timebomb.

Elsewhere on The Project interview, Minogue said she was thrilled by the reception both Tension and Padam Padam have received.

“I started work on this album a couple of years ago … getting back on the superhighway for electro pop with the feels and Padam Padam opened all the doors for that, really,” she said.
