Kitty Flanagan and Anne Edmonds’ X-rated AACTA routine has star-studded crowd in stitches
Kitty Flanagan and Anne Edmonds set the tone for this year’s AACTAs with an X-rated introduction to the star-studded show.
After this year’s AACTAs host Russell Crowe introduced the show, comedians Kitty Flanagan and Anne Edmonds took to the stage and introduced the very cheeky tone for the evening.
Big stars flooded the red carpet ahead of the show, including Robbie Williams, Sophie Monk and Henry Cavill.
After poking fun at keeping the stars waiting for their celebs before the show, the naughty duo had the audience in fits as they warmed up viewers for the lengthy ceremony.
“Oh, come on, ladies and gentlemen,” said Flanagan. “I mean, are you not entertained? Come on! And let’s not forget the hour that we’ve already been sitting here for, before Russ got out here and very, very sweetly kept it tight. That was nice, guys. That was good. But genuinely, genuinely.”
Edmonds urged the celebrity attendees to be mindful of Crowe’s Hollywood star status, saying: “Genuinely, guys, it is a privilege to have Russ here with us tonight, but please be respectful. Okay, don’t be pitching him your half arsed TV show ideas. All right. I’ve already tried. He’s got really good security, actually.”
Flanagan then quizzed: “What were you pitching him?” to which Flanagan sparked a roar of laughter from the crowd when she shared her idea.
“Gladiator Island. A bunch of f-boys fight and f**k each other to the death,” she revealed.
Edmonds then went on to remind the star-studded crowd that the venue is no smoking; including vapes.
“A bit of housekeeping, sorry guys, before we start. If you need to smoke, uh, please just head outside. Um, and if you need to vape, please follow the smokers. And … you’re an embarrassment.”
“And if the fire alarm goes off this evening, don’t panic. It’s probably just because Edo and I are looking so smoking hot!” teased Flanagan. “AM I right? Yeah. Big shout out to Kmart and Nomi-B for the fresh, fresh middle-aged lady fits. Thanking you.”
Lastly the pair insisted that the audience turn their phones off, with Edmonds reminding the hundreds of stars seated in front of her: “Very important to turn your phone off tonight, all right? Unless you want thousands of messages from Binge offering you KAYO? Nobody knows what it is and no one wants it.
“And finally, quick word about speeches. If you are an executive producer or a network executive coming up to accept an award, please remember this is a televised event. Viewers at home have absolutely no idea who you are, so do us all a favour and get off, quick sticks. “Just take your seat and enjoy the fact that you make all the money. All right?”
