KERRI-Anne Kennerley has signed an exclusive deal with Channel 7, reportedly worth up to$350,000, to open up about her husband’s devastating accident that left him with a severe spinal cord injury.

Last month, the 62-year-old media personality was left heartbroken after her partner of 31 years, John Kennerley, fell over a garden hedge while taking photos at a golf resort near Coffs Harbour. Though fully conscious and able to be sat up, the fractures to his C2 and C3 vertebrae mean he is unable to move his upper limbs.

Now, KAK has spoken about the freak accident that threw her life into chaos in an upcoming TV interview with Seven’s Sunday Night, reportedly signing an exclusive deal with the network “in the region of $350,000”, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Her manager Sean Anderson refused to comment on the agreed figure but told Fairfax he was inundated with offers for the TV icon to tell her story since the day it happened.

She decided to wait until her husband’s condition had stabilised before conducting any interviews.

It is believed a fierce bidding war broke out between the Seven and Nine Networks to secure the exclusive, which will air next week.

The Aussie TV icon reveals in a sneak peek that her 75-year-old husband promised to recover from the neck injury for her. “He said, ‘the only reason I’m trying is for you,’” she says.

“It happened so fast. All he could say is ‘I can’t feel anything, I can’t feel anything.’

“I sort of wake up every day thinking, ‘what a shocker, nightmare that was!’” KAK tells the camera, before adding: “It unfortunately is not a nightmare.”

John Kennerley has been in hospital since being airlifted from the Bonville Golf Resort at Coffs Harbour on March 6.

One month on from the accident, the retired businessman remains in intensive care at Royal North Shore Hospital and is unable to breath or eat without assistance.

Though fully conscious and able to be sat up, the fractures to his C2 and C3 vertebrae mean he is unable to move his upper limbs. The couple have been learning to communicate with an alphabet board and by blinking.

“Wow, the sliding doors of life,” the veteran television personality says in the minute-long clip.

Friends confirm KAK has been spending eight hours a day at her husband’s bedside. It is believed it may be months before her partner is discharged from hospital.

The ongoing cost of medical care and maintenance for John is said to have prompted KAK to accept payment for her tell-all.

“While this is the most traumatic and devastating news we have been overwhelmed with messages of good wishes and prayers. Thanks to all,” she said last month.
